Vimak's Orrery

Orerrys have been done before, just not at this scale.
— Albus Nihon, Horologists

Overview

After learning of The Seven Ruined Wonders of pre-collapse times, King Vimak Helia III desires to create a work that is just as impressive if not more-so. To this end he has commissioned the best talents available to construct a gigantic orrery that will not only appear great but to have several important functions.   The Helians believe that the Sun is the center of all things moreso than most of the world. As such the Sun will be the most prominent feature of the Vimak's Orrery. Current plans will include an interior where studies of the brightest celestial object in the sky can be undertaken. In fact, the orrery will be constructed as an extension of the Golden Spire.

A Statement

The wonder will be a testament to Helia's knowledge of the cosmos. The Helians deem their knowledge of the celestial plane to be greater than that of the Queendom of Lunaria, but there is disagreement on this point outside the Kingdom.

If they're pouring so many resources in this thing, it must be because it will have some practical application. They probably won't tell anyone what that is though.
— Aurora Songwind, Musician

Sol's Radiant Light

The central feature of Vimak's Orrery is the central sun. For this project, it is not enough to build an impressive looking sphere. Vimak has demanded that the sphere should bask the Radiant City of Sol in an ever present light.   There are rumors that Vimak wishes for the light of his orrery to have some sort of magical property. Whether it is an improved magic shield for Sol. The city's size has strained the one currently in place to the point where it is doubtful the shield could survive an earnest assault from Lunaria. Another theory is that it could be a weapon. Perhaps Vimak wishes to call upon the power of sun to vanquish his enemies. How this is to be achieved is anyone's guess. If true, Queen Shava and other interested parties may wish to deny the completion of the project.   Helian authorities have denied these rumors. King Vimak himself has not publicly addressed this as yet.

A Timepiece

Vimak's Orrery will allow every citizen of Sol to keep track of time. One wouldn't create this large and elaborate structure just to keep track of the hours of the day. The orrery is meant to track the longer cycles of time. The device is expected to last several millennia. Perhaps Vimak intends to look far into the future once his current conquests have been accomplished.   To help accomplish this, the mechanics of the orrery will allow its motions to perfectly mirror that of actual celestial objects.

Status of Completion

As of this writing, the project has only just begun. Vast quantities of materials have already been acquired and a lot of land next to Vimak's Palace has been sectioned off for construction. Before announcing the project Vimak has contracted an artist to paint a picture of the finished product. This painting can be found within Vimak's palace.
