Reclaimer Guild

Some of these vast deserts were once green and fertile. If the Great Balance is to be restored then these lands must be green again.
— Firdaus Grassbrew, Reclaimer

Overview

This guild's mission is to turn parts of the Oniruuru Desert into verdant landscapes. One of the reasons given is that the certain lands were green in the old world and that the Great Collapse has decertified several lands. Other reasons include increasing livable territory as well as to ease the suffering of the people living in the Oniruuru Desert. The reasons for each member joining the guild are varied. Each that join pay dues to support training members and ensuring each are equipped to observe the state of the natural world. Several high ranking members of the guild are high trained and experienced druids.   The goal of the guild is vast in scope and greatly ambitious in concept. It is not yet known if they proceed on a fool's endeavor against the great forces of the world.   The guild currently focuses their efforts just outside of the Gateway City of Vavahady, and the surrounding region. They hope to expand as they induct new members.

They say the Great Collapse and all its calamities and woes ended some time ago. I don't believe this to be true. The collapse was not a spontaneous event where it all happened in the blink of an eye. That is to say, the great storms that shattered the Ancients were only part of the larger cataclysm. The whole of the collapse occurred over many years through many largely invisible means. I believe those invisible forces remain at work today.
— Karima Grassbrew, Reclaimer

The Great Imbalance

The mission to turn the deserts green goes beyond restoration and easing suffering. The belief is that the desertification of once green lands caused by the collapse is now an ongoing process. That the world relied on a balance of verdant lands and dry deserts to maintain a system by which all manner of life may thrive. The sudden impact of the collapse and the desertification it has caused has upset this balance and now the world is at risk of slowly becoming dry husk of what it once was.   This belief is not entirely unfounded. When the expedition of Captain Amaya Quickwind arrived at a place called the Ancient Crater, which was on the Planus Continent, she discovered that the native inhabitants have noted a steady decline in life around the crater. On the Deshret Continent itself, many have noted that trees are slowly losing their life high up the slopes of the Rayiq Mountain Ring. Perhaps the mountains have acted as a buffer that delayed the great desertification the Reclaimers fear, and now the forces causing it have made it across the mountains.

Methods

The Reclaimer Guild is attempting to use any means at their disposal to accomplish this task, including magic. Their primary tool is in careful large scale cultivation of chosen plots of land. Planting trees and hardy plants in mass quantities and then ensuring they survive their young years. Magic is used to great protected spheres around these plots of land. Such magical defenses are either temporary or prove to be insufficient. The guild is not yet large enough to tackle the problem with the scale of effort desired nor do they wield the influence necessary to seek aid from more prominent organizations.   While their efforts have seen small gains in recent years, plots that were successfully turned green are nevertheless reclaimed by the unrelenting forces of desertification. Usually these plots are from earlier efforts when the institutional knowledge of the organization was in its infancy. It is not yet certain what fate newer plots of reclaimed land will have.

Opinions of the Guild

There are two ways the view the Reclaimer's efforts. The first view is that their efforts are noble and that more efforts should be made to assist their fight against the specter of a world consuming desert. The second view is that the Reclaimers are meddling against the will of nature, the will of the world. That the desertification is a misunderstood phenomena and that any attempts to stop it could make things worse. Most scholars are divided as to which side to take as evidence and study are lacking.

Note(s) from the Archivists:

What does everyone here think about the Reclaimers? - Archivist Enna    I personally don't want to live on a desert world, so the Reclaimers seem to have the right idea. - Archivist Theta    There are things about the world we do not yet understand. Perhaps the Reclaimers should study and contemplate the issue more thoroughly before making swift actions. - Archivist Savitri   Even if we are meddling in something we don't understand, I don't see how planting a few more trees could hurt. - Archivist Edward
