Versipels
Before werecreatures were seen as monsters and freaks of nature, there was a time that they were the greatest champions of nature. Mortals who used the fusion of mortal and beasts to defend nature and all of its gifts. And the children of these mortals were blessed with traits and abilities descended from the shifting of their parents. They were at first known by a simple name: Shifters. But as time went on and Avestra forgot the sacrifices of the werecreatures, they were given a different name: Versipels. And while their traits sometimes cause distrust the general populace, they still do what they can to protect nature, whether civilized or wild.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Versipels can appear as any species their parents belong to, taking on their features as well. However, when they choose to awaken their animalistic side, their appearances begin to shift as they summon features related to the animal they are attuned to. The most common variants are related to the major variants of werecreatures: bat, bear, boar, crocodile, dinosaur, moose, rat, shark, tiger, and wolf.
Growth Rate & Stages
Versipels will live at the same rate as their parent species, depending on which one is more dominant. Obivously, the most long-lived amongst the En-Khenu are those with elven blood.
Civilization and Culture
History
While the druids were always seen as the main guardians of nature, there were times when even warriors who were not druids or rangers had to step in. And there were times when even the fruits of mortalkind were not enough to hold back the evil that threatened nature. The first werecreatures were made in rituals that allowed them to gain the powers of beasts, giving them a hybrid form that called upon the strengths of both sides. And they continued to serve as guardians of nature and like all mortals, they had children and these children were influenced by their were nature, turning them into the first of the Versipels.
As time went on, this blessing turned into a curse as somehow, the ritual turned into a disease. Werecreatures, once blessings of nature, became demonized and monsters to fear if one lost themself to the animal within. And their children, the Versipels, suffered as well. The War for Avestra exasperated the matter. Versipels have done all they can to keep their reptuation above water like the planetouched scions but it is hard to do sometimes. Those who were touched by animalistic nature will always have to battle both the negative reputations they face and the animal instinct deep within themselves.
Interspecies Relations and Assumptions
En-Khenu are often accepted by their parents except for those born to groups such as the Lumin Orcs. As such, they usually have a good relationship with them and even follow their ways for their entire lives or leave to find a path for themselves. Some hold no loyalty to their parents whether they be werecreatures or not as the fear others hold deep down makes them distant from the other races. However, they mainly try to stay as fair and neutral as they can.
