The Power of Words

Words have always have important role in the history of Avestra. From the rulers who use their words to convince and manipulate the masses to the lowest thieves and assassins who make deals with their words. But like everything in Avestra, that isn't the only power words have. From the day magic seeped into the universe, it flowed into the power of language. Vows that can't be broken. Curses that can strip away even an Outsider's power. Contracts that even a Devil must fulfill. If one invokes magic while speaking the words and pouring themselves into it, a vow is made. Nearly unbreakable. And the consequences can be dire should one break it.

Manifestation

When someone makes a binding vow, magic flows through the air. They taste electricity as it flares and their words create a resonating effect between themselves and the person they're making the vow with, if any. Depending on the binding vow, there can be physical markings if the one making the vow wishes to have it be visible. Someone who makes a binding vow of silence will gain a mark on their neck that glows the color of their magical signature when the vow is invoked. Said mark also depends on the person's style of magic.   Curses are an afront to the person who it is cast upon. Nature and the primal arts depise them. Trees start to will, grass starts to shrivel at least in the view of the curse bearer. In actuality, it's a trick on the wall. But the curse is not so. The bearer of the curse feels it in every sense of the word and they never forget the feeling that something wrong clings onto their soul. Especially if said curse deforms them whether physically, mentally, or spiritually.   Contracts are the most common, binding cosmic law made between two parties. Lawful residents of Devum and Nistra invoke this the most. And this is where tricksters have the most fun as loopholes exist here the same as binding vows. And someone is more than willing to do so to make sure they get what they want out of the deal. The contracts are usually written on paper but can also be grafted to the person making it as a magical sigil or a full text.

Localization

Anti-magic zones and dead magic zones can block out the effects of these magical vows and prevent them from being made. However, should someone break the vow and remember that they did so when they leave the zone, they immediately suffer the effects of that break. Should they forget however... then they have no reason to be in trouble for breaking the vow.
