Reaching to the Haven: Attaining the Power of the Stars

Reaching to the Haven: Attaining the Power of the Stars is a book beginning to circulate among certain circles of mages, scholars, and magical scientists. . The book explores the theory that a person can gain immense power by reaching beyond the stars, passing through the heavens, or breaking through the mental and magical barrier that separates the world from what lies beyond. It was originally dismissed as fantasy, or perhaps as the dream of someone desperate to gain the powers of the gods and goddesses. Some scholars believed the author had simply read too many old legends about ancient powers, lost histories, and forgotten realms.   However, when the two summoned heroes appeared and began displaying powers far beyond normal limits, what once sounded like fiction started to feel possible.   The book presents three main theories.   The first theory claims that if someone can reach the heavens, where the gods and goddesses dwell, then the divine beings may bestow power upon them as a reward for breaking past the limits of the mortal world.   The second theory suggests that a person could travel to another world and return, gaining power as they cross the Great Divide between realms. According to this idea, the act of passing between worlds changes the soul, body, or magical nature of the traveler.   The third theory is more physical and arcane in nature. It claims that if someone can pass beyond the stars and reach the farthest point of existence, their body will be transformed by the forces found there.   Supporters of this book point to the two heroes as living proof of these theories. Both heroes crossed the Great Divide from another world, and both were blessed with extraordinary powers far beyond what their training or skill level should allow. One gained a celestial and holy power mode, along with access to healing magic and other divine abilities. The other gained an Overdrive Mode that feeds off his rage, fueling his strength and granting him access to fire magic.   Because of this, some mages and scientists believe that if heroes from another world can gain such power, then people born in this world should also be able to push past the Great Wall or Great Divide and claim that power for themselves.   This belief has created a new and dangerous field of magical study. Across the continent, mages, inventors, and reckless scholars have begun creating rituals, machines, and experimental spells meant to break through the heavens, pierce the stars, or teleport living beings beyond the world’s limits.   These experiments have already caused several disasters.   There have been incidents of people teleporting themselves too high into the sky and falling back down. A few were wise enough to prepare secondary teleportation spells or magical means of landing safely. Others were not so lucky and discovered a harsh new power known as gravity, followed immediately by the even harsher force of sudden impact.   Other experiments have ended in catastrophic magical backlash. Failed rituals have damaged laboratories, warped the bodies of their casters, and in at least one case, blown apart an entire city block.   Despite these dangers, Reaching to the Haven continues to be taken seriously by many. Every time the heroes perform another impossible feat, reveal a new ability, or shift the course of the war, belief in the book grows stronger. To its followers, each miracle is further proof that there is a way for ordinary people to break through the world’s limits and gain power beyond anything they were meant to possess.
