Myrthalla Species in Avendora | World Anvil

Myrthalla (Murr-thall-uh)

Basic Information

Anatomy

These mysterious squid-like creatures were first found in the dark depths of Isotakasa shortly after mining operations were begun there. The Myrthallas did not take kindly to the invasion of their territory and quickly began violently attacking any and all Atalanti Republic structures they found in an oddly quarantined fashion. Their bodies are an odd, undulating, elongated wedge shape sprouting myriad tentacles. Their four eyes can see in almost total darkness and they can swim surprisingly fast for their odd shape. They destroy underwater buildings by latching onto a surface and wrapping their tentacles around it before contracting with all their might, slowly crushing even metal structures. They also excrete large amounts of dark green ink when threatened, which in addition to being mildly toxic, also corrodes and rusts metal very quickly.

Genetics and Reproduction

Not much is known about how Myrthallas reproduce as they jealously guard their nests and react even more violently (if that was possible) when anything gets close.

Ecology and Habitats

While they live in the deepest parts of the ocean, laying eggs in deep crevices and underwater caves, ever since Atalantis came to their planet they regularly venture up to attack and destroy Republic assets and mining equipment.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Myrthallas eat only sea flora such as deep oceon algae and moss located on the sea floor. They also have been observed eating coral and similar items.

Additional Information

Average Intelligence

Alarming levels of intellect and coordination displayed.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms

Due to the substantial losses of life and property caused by these creatures, the Atalanti Republic has brought non-native Tarokudons to the planet’s waters in the hopes that they would hunt them to extinction. The long term effects are yet to be seen, but there has certainly been a decrease in attacks in recent years.
