Realmgate Technology / Science in Avaria | World Anvil

Realmgate

In ancient times before the disappearance of the Avarian people and the coming of the Manastorms, when the gods walked the world besides mortals, Avaria was a hub world. A central plane connected to dozens of realms where travellers would frequent on their way through the multiverse. The Avarians were masters of magic and technology and could seamlessly combine the two to create marvels unmatched throughout the many realms.   One of their most astonishing creations was the realm gates themselves, arcane focal points that acted as anchors in the sea of infinite mana. Through these gates, travel between planes was near-instant and safe from the dangers of traditional plane shifting magic.   With such a flow of different civilisations, materials and resources Avaria flourished and the Avarian people were able to achieve new pinnacles of magic and science.   Occasionally an overconfident warlord and aggressive species would try and use these realm gates to assault Avaria and claims its spoils for their own. Each time they were swiftly dispatched by the Avarians unrivalled technology. Hard light shields and sentinel constructs were enough to persuade all but the most foolhardy to lay down their weapons and those who did not yield were cut down by gauss and energy defence turrets.   Then for a reason lost to time, the @Avarians vanished and the realm gates died, their arcane magic unbound to ravage the world and the millions stranded upon it.   They stand to this day, massive inert objects that dominate the horizons around the world, waiting for those sufficiently advanced to find them.
