Makers Point

Makers Point stands as a critical agricultural center, supporting The Seat’s population with its wealth of grain and livestock while maintaining a quaint, rural charm. Despite its simplicity, the town plays a vital role in Tir Volen’s economy and food security.

Demographics

Makers Point is primarily a farming community with a population made up mostly of humans. However, due to its proximity to The Seat and its importance as a supplier of agricultural goods, it is home to a small number of halflings, gnomes, and dwarves who have settled in the area to lend their expertise in agriculture, craftsmanship, and trade.   Humans make up roughly 40% of the population, primarily farmers, laborers, and militia members. Halflings constitute about 35%, drawn by the town’s agricultural focus, with many working in the fields or running inns and taverns. Gnomes and Dwarves make up 15%, with gnomes often involved in mechanical work and innovations related to farming tools, and dwarves contributing to construction and stonework. The remaining 10% of the population is split amongst many other races who have made their home in the area The town’s population is highly rural, with most people living in the various villages and hamlets that surround the central hub of Makers Point. Each of these smaller settlements specializes in particular crops, livestock, or trades, contributing to the collective identity of the town.

Government

Makers Point operates under the governance of Mayor Farrion Oldknow, a human man known for his pragmatic leadership and strong ties to The Seat. He is an appointed official, acting as the interim leader on behalf of The Seat’s rulers, primarily serving as a local administrator who enforces the kingdom's laws, oversees trade, and ensures the smooth functioning of agricultural operations.   The town has a Council of Elders, a group of respected village leaders who advise the Mayor on important decisions. These Elders are chosen by the individual villages that make up Makers Point and act as liaisons between their communities and the town’s central government. The Mayor and Elders meet regularly to discuss matters of trade, defense, and infrastructure.   While the town answers to The Seat, its relative autonomy allows it to make decisions on local matters. The Brass Gauntlet occasionally stations small units here for defense, but Makers Point maintains its own sizeable militia for day-to-day security.

Defences

Despite its rural nature, Makers Point has developed a robust militia to protect against bandits and wild creatures. The militia is composed of local farmers and villagers who are trained to defend their homes.   The Militia: Around 300 men and women, led by Captain Harlan Yewson, a veteran of The Brass Gauntlet who returned home to lead the militia. They are well-equipped for a rural force, with spears, crossbows, and leather armor, supported by local blacksmiths.   Fortified Farms: Some of the larger farms are fortified with palisades and watchtowers to provide refuge in case of attacks.   Support from The Seat: Due to its proximity, Makers Point can quickly receive reinforcements from The Brass Gauntlet, ensuring that the town remains safe in the event of a larger threat.
