Vona Swiftfern

(a.k.a. Madame Green)

The Wyrd Witch

The story of Vona Swiftfern's life before she entered the notoriety of history is much debated, but few details exist and she was never keen to speak of herself. What little is known is that early in life she was left on her own when a virulent disease tore through a tiny town in near the center of The FEN, wiping out her family. She was taken in by the Coven after that, learning the ways of Circe's magic. Eventually in her teen years she had a falling out with the coven. Some say she took umbrage with the direction the Coven took in its responsibility to protect Circe's children, believing they did not work hard enough and use enough of their magic. She spent the rest of her teens practicing magic alone in the woods, living off the land by her own powers.   Regardless of the how, Vona wound up living as a hermit in the wilds of The FEN for a number of years, dissapearing from history until she was thrust back into the focus in 3A Y492.

The First Blue Moon

On the first night of Agaperos in 492, Circe made a sudden proclamation that all her faithful were to attend a ceremony at the foot of The Gloaming Crown in two weeks time. In what has now been named The Blue Moon Calling, thousands from all across The Queendom made the journey to Lykofos to see what was to happen. The masses gathered outside the gates of the castle, straining the inns and taverns of Lykofos beyond capacity.   Finally, on the 15th of Agaperos in 492, the gates were opened as Circe's Witchknight Royal Guard ushered the gathered masses into the courtyard of the great castle. There they found Circe herself standing before them on a pedastal where she could be seen by all. The faithful fell silent as she raised her hand, pointing to her moon hanging high in the sky. The silver-white light of her watchful guardian began to brighten and deepen before it radiated a vibrant yet soft blue light across the kingdom. Circe then turned behind her and beckoned someone to the stage with her, as Vona Swiftfern was presented to the masses, as Circe addressed her children:
My gathered beloved, I have called you here today to witness the beginning of a new age in my queendom. The atrocity of Arborwind Bay and the assaults on your safety from the creatures of the Wyrd Wood shall soon be an unpleasant memory. On this day, I bring you new guardians. I bring you champions, and I bring you my new Herald on this world. I give to you the daughter of The Queendom, Vona Swiftfern and my Blessed Hunter's of the Moon's Light.
Vona stood before the children of Circe, confident and strong, as a group of 13 men and women stepped forward from the shadows on the wings of the stage. As Circe raised both of her arms wide in front of her, all 13 of the gathered warriors shifted under the light of the moon, changing into full werewolf forms as cries of panic and fear rang out from the people; but none of the warriors attacked, frenzied, or became violent.
Calm, my children. You see before you my new hunters and your new guardians. Under my guidance and blessing, what once was a curse cast upon this land and its people becomes its greatest strength. From this day forward, my people will be watched over not only by my gaze, but by the sharp eyes of my Blessed Hunters, as they serve my will and your safety. And in leading them, I mark you, Vona Swiftfern, as my herald via the symbol of the Blue Moon.
With a divine power belied by the delicateness of her slender fingers, Circe extended her grasp outward as if clasping the moon itself, as the blue light was seemingly pulled from it through the air, drifting down and branding the symbol of two blue crescent moons onto her skin.

In Service to The Witch Queen

It was there in 492 that Vona became what would later be known as The Blue Moon Hunter; Herald of Circe and de-facto leader of The Blessed, her divine army of werewolves sent out to protect the people. Vona served in this capacity for a number of decades, with several later stories and reports marking on how she no longer seemed to age after her first elevation to the position. She was beloved by the people where she went, but always preferred to remain far from any cities and villages, having learned to enjoy her solitude as a forest witch.

The Founding of Mist

Several ledgers from the time, at least those aggreed on by Queendom historians, show that Vona herself was present at the founding of the town of Mist and served as direct counsel to the faithful, merchants, and builders in their holy mission.

The 1st Reconcilliation

In 3A Y520, almost 50 years after their exit from Circe's rule in an official capacity, the Council of Provosts put forth an official request to Circe and Vona to bring House Silverberg back into power and guidance. Vona was sent to Silverberg Manor as the official voice of Circe to negotiate their terms and ask their servitude once more, though given strict instructions that it must be by their decisions and was not to be a decree. The terms of House Silverberg's initial exit known only to Circe, Elenor Silverberg, and Damon Maxim of Clan Veruza, the negotiations were short and unproductive. House Silverberg was sworn to uphold an agreement that they could not speak on, politely declining Vona's invitations and offerings.

The Passing of Title

Show spoiler
In a secret ceremony somewhere in the early 600s, the title of Blue Moon Hunter was finally passed from Vona to her first successor, as she believed that her time in the role had been served and it was time to let someone more directly connected to the needs of the modern Queendom assume the title and responsibility. It is from here that she passed into history and is not spoken of again, believing to have resigned herself to quiet isolation once more and dying in her own bed in her forest cottage.

A Familiar Witch Appears

Somewhere approximate to 3A Y1015, a forest witch referring to herself only as Madame Green begins to be spoken of in various reports and missives in the area of The FEN between Mist and Artoria. Eventually, the Provosts of those towns are able to establish communication with her and negotiate terms of mutual cooperation, as the strange witch seems to wield powerful natural magics and is capable of growing a wide variety of plants and herbs that are of immense use to local herbalists and medical practitioners. Her only consistent rule appears to be full autonomy and guarantee of her solitude.
