lunas

Lunas are the Avani name for a unit of time that is approximately a month and connected to the phases of their primary moon, Luna. It is also the primary focus of the Lunar Cyclical Calendar and its namesake. Each Lunas is about 29 days. What is most interesting is that this system of time arose multiple times among cultures that were completely isolated from each other. The way that the moon orbits around the planet may just be a natural way to divide cycles into smaller periods of time, or it could have magical significance, or perhaps it is the remnants of instincts that used the moon to tell when to migrate. Regardless, the moon resonates with the Avani and their calendar reflects this.
Though the system is metaphysically important to them, Lunas have no specific names that are in common usage and are merely called 1st Lunas, 2nd Lunas, 3rd Lunas, and so forth. Some astrological organizations and religions have given each lunas a title, but most citizens are uninitiated to this belief.
