Marugu
Marugu is the shared tongue of the Suryathi humans and the Sun Elves of the Aloen Empire. It originated as a dialect of an ancient Elvish language but evolved over centuries into a unique and richly expressive tongue through the collaboration and cultural synthesis between humans and elves. Marugu is used by the Suryathi alongside Common in everyday trade, governance, and arts. Its melodic flow and poetic rhythm have made it both a practical and ceremonial language. Regional dialects of Marugu are common, and the formal version, High Marugu, is reserved for sacred rituals, royal decrees, and diplomacy.
Marugu is analogous to real-world Sanskrit, blended with elements of Elvish.
Writing System
Marugu employs two distinct scripts: the Suryathi Script, developed for ease of use in daily life, and Espruar, the ancient Elvish alphabet reserved for use when writing in High Marugu. The Suryathi Script incorporates smooth curves and loops, while Espruar integrates graceful and fluid glyphs.
Geographical Distribution
Marugu is spoken throughout the Aloen Empire and its territories, with regional variations common among differing subcultures of Suryanthi. It is the common language of the empire’s traders, diplomats, and scholars. High Marugu is primarily used by the clergy, nobility, and academies.
