Virtual Species in Aurora | World Anvil

Virtual

Virtuals were, as the name implies, virtual beings that lived in the virtual city of Origin. They were automated, humanoid beings that lived according to set routines and preprogrammed interactions. Some of them were also programmed to help raise the 1st Itera alongside the supercomputer Simone.   Once the 1st Itera was awoken from Origin into the real world, the virtual city was made inaccessible. Thus it is believed that the Virtuals were all deleted, as they no longer served any purpose.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Variants were green, humanoid beings that resemble holograms despite being completely solid. They had pale, slightly glowing green eyes with no pupils.

Biological Traits

Virtuals exhibited heights within the range of an average human adult.

Genetics and Reproduction

Simone was able to spawn new Virtuals as needed.

Growth Rate & Stages

Virtuals were static in terms of growth, being spawned as adults and remaining that way. (However, it is believed that there were also baby and child Virtuals later on in the 1st Itera's time in Origin, whose purpose was to help teach the 1st Itera how to take care of children.)

Ecology and Habitats

Virtuals often lived in skycrapers and around marketplaces.

Dietary Needs and Habits

While Virtuals did appear to eat and drink at times, they had no biological need to do so.

Behaviour

Virtuals were polite, caring and friendly towards the Variants. With each other their relationships ranged from friendly to hostile depending on the time of day. It is theorized that their behaviours were meant to mimic human relationships and expose the Variants to them.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Virtuals lived either alone or as couples. Their communities were often formed within whatever buildings they happened to live in. They had frequent social interactions, though not all of them were friendly. However, for the most part they lived together in peace.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

Virtuals were used to take care of the Variants and provide social interaction.

Facial characteristics

Virtuals had basic facial features such as a nose, ears and mouth, but nothing beyond that. They did not have hair.

Average Intelligence

Virtuals had humanlike intelligence and traits that made them seem almost sapient.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Apart from being able to take in sights and sounds, Virtuals could also receive instructions remotely from Simone.
