Aurelia Prime: Seat of the Galactic Conclave

Aurelia Prime: Seat of the Galactic Conclave

The Drid are the dominant species and culture in the Aurelius Territory. To maintain dominance over the ten planets in the system, they’ve used the Conclave as their governing seat of power located on Aurelius Prime. The Conclave has build a foundation of system-wide laws that serve as the framework for peace and order in the whole territory, the limits of all the major and minor corporations who are powers in their own right, and the judges of galactic crimes or crimes that impact more than one planet. It is the strongest seat of power in the known universe. There are currently nine seats on the Conclave, with discussions on adding a tenth seat. In it’s five millennia history, this is the largest governing body of its existence.

We know very little about the beginnings of the Conclave. The Drid keep this knowledge under tight wraps. We do know that the first Conclave body only included three Drid. They were elders of the race, which meant all three were over 5 centuries old. The original Conclave governed for almost a full millennia. The single biggest accomplishment of the original Conclave was the epic move of the Drid race from their original planet, Xenov, to the Aurelius Territory. This accomplishment salvaged a dying planet and saved their entire species from becoming extinct. From this experience, the Conclave used their knowledge of planetary evolution to save other species from the same fate, and negotiated the move of other species into the Aurelius Territory under the control of Drid. The Drid’s power in the territory can be directly tied to the genius and strategic minds on the Conclave.

Over the Drid’s time in the Aurelius Territory, the Conclave has approved the existence of large and small corporations that direct food, technology, fuel, metals, transportation and many other resources throughout the territory. They’ve given these corporations charge over keeping the population of dozens of species productive and under control. If anyone works under a corporation, their entire life is ordered by corporation rules and regulations. This accounts for 65% of the population in the territory. The other 35% includes Drid-run professions, those living in the three planets of the Outskirts, outlaws, and privateers who can keep up enough business to finance their own existence.

The galactic issues that the Conclave governs on a regular basis include but not limited to, executive management of The Grid, the communication network that links seven of the Aurelius planets and tracks all travel and communications in the system up to the Outskirts; rules and regulations that guide scientific and technological advancements and they preside over any who are charged with threatening the existence of any intelligent species in the territory; executive direction of the Galactic Space Force, the Drid military, and all decisions surrounding the terraforming and re-building of their home planet of Xenov (in an entirely different galaxy, light years away from Aurelius and the judging and sentencing of criminal entities that impact more than just a single planet. Most of inter-planetary law enforcement lies in the hands of the Galactic Space Force. The marshals have the power, under the Conclave, to serve as judge, jury, and executioner to most threats. Only those with very special significance reach the judgement of the Conclave.

The last territory-wide publicly significant case brought before the Conclave, was the trial of the Drid, Arger Strom. A standing law of the territory is that no Drid are to be summarily executed. This is paramount to maintaining Drid domination in the territory. The reproduction of Drid is slower than other species, but Drid are capable of living for centuries due to their technology of transferring consciousness. Drid can definitely be killed, especially without immediate access to their life-enhancing tech, but with the many protections and protocol put in place by the Conclave, it is very difficult. More details on that elsewhere, but for now, when Arger Strom, the most dangerous criminal in Drid history was taken into custody (by the first human marshal no less), his fate was decided by the Conclave.

Arger Strom, who came close to developing a large enough fleet to assert military power over the territory, was brought before the Conclave to answer for his crimes. He had been arrested over a century before and was sentenced to terraforming duty. But his contacts in the Drid military was so strong, that he became the only convicted criminal ever to escape terraforming duty. When he returned to the Aurelius Territory, he became responsible for the most single Drid deaths outside of war ever. The military force he was able to amass was tremendous for just one individual. For the first and only time in Conclave history, the consciousness of a Drid was sentenced to be transferred into a non-Drid, passive shell. That shell remains a mystery to normal citizens like myself to this day.
