Levy

Levy or Levies are usually peasants such as farmers and other full time workers that have been called to fight for their local lord.
Like any other type of soldier, levies have to buy their own equipment and as such are often terribly equipped having nothing more than a helmet, simple leather or cloth armour and weapon to take into battle.
The combat training they receive consists of what they taught themselves when training with friends or family in their free time.

Due to being drafted their moral is not very high and they would rather be tending to their fields.

Equipment

Very light armour, simple melee weapon, kidney pouch and water skin.

Weaponry

Swords, spears, axes and clubs are the usual types of weapons this unit carries.

Upkeep

This type of soldier receives about 8 copper a day in pay. Food is occasionally supplied.

Recruitment

It is usually men that are drafted as levies but anyone strong enough to use a melee weapon will be recruited.
