Osmium
Osmium
The Valusian Cluster is the premier source of raw Osmium. The proto-planets embedded in the dense disk of the 9t-Gretflosh star are the remnants of destroyed, metal-rich moons. Because these bodies never fully "settled," the Osmium didn't sink to an unreachable core.
The Operation
Massive Gravity Grinders—automated stations—use Xi-particle beams to "sieve" the dust ring. They pull the heaviest isotopes toward magnetic collection plates.
This is where the Homo Sapiens Caelestis excel. The microgravity environment allows them to maneuver the massive, dense Osmium "slugs" (which can weigh hundreds of tons despite their small size) into transport ships with a grace ground-dwellers lack.
"Iron Slugs" Rogue Asteroids (The M-Type Drifters)
Outside the principal trade routes of Mars, there are the rare "M-Type" (Metallic) asteroids that escaped the gravitational pull of the inner system.
The Method
Small, high-risk mining collectives—often funded by the Red Dragons Tong or the Basalt Cartel —attach "Tug-Drives" to these asteroids.
The Extraction
They don't mine them in deep space; they drag them into a decaying orbit around Phobos. The moon’s intense tidal forces help "crack" the asteroid’s silicate shell, exposing the Osmium-Iridium veins.
The Connection
The slum-dwellers in the Martian slums recycle much of the "slag" from these Osmium-stripping operations to build scaffolding—worthless to the Corporations but a treasure of "stubborn rust" for them.
They also use some of the slag as grape shot in grape shot launchers on combatant spaceships.
The "Pre-Main" Accretion Siphon
Deep inside the luminous reflection nebula of the Valusian system, the blue star 9t-Gretflosh is still in its violent infancy.
The Method
This is "Suicide Mining." Heavily shielded drones enter the innermost edge of the accretion disk, where the heat vaporizes rock but not yet the heavy metals.
The Yield
The Osmium recovered here is Isotopically Pure. It is used exclusively for the most sensitive components in Adi’s power armor and the Xi-Shield generators.
The Black Market
If a shipment of "Siphon-Osmium" is hijacked, it usually ends up at the nearest underground smelter where it is forged into "Black-Market Razors" that can cut through standard ceramic armor like paper. Many Razorgirls are armed with these razors.
The Economics of Density
The "Weight Tax": A briefcase-sized cube of Osmium weighs roughly 500 kg.
The Smuggling Trick: Smugglers often hide high-value data-slugs inside hollowed-out Osmium blocks. Because Osmium is a perfect radiation and sensor shield, not even a "Robbie" unit’s deep-scan can see what’s inside.
