Discovery

Even long before the Cataclysm, the people were encountering oddities in certain materials and stones.
Patterns under thin layers of material. Patterns, which were created only when a certain portion of material liquified and swirled around, mixing itself.
It took the discovery of Crystals and their use before people could attempt to recreate these swirling patterns themselves.

Know-How and accessibility

The process used in creation of these patterns is the same as the one behind Fluidic Momentum.
After people connected the patterns in materials to the influence of Fluid Flow , they started using the same principle behind Fluidic Momentum.
  That is: Influencing material and letting it swirl around under controlled conditions until the injected Fluid Flow dissipates.
When the Flow affecting non-biological materials dissipates and the materials solidify again, the solidification causes a pattern depending on the direction the material was moving in its pocket. Some FluidGravers are experimenting with various flows of materials, creating personified patterns.
To attempt FlowGraving, one just needs to know the basic manipulation of the Flow. After that, it just becomes a practice to learn how to use the Fluid without killing themselves.

Usage and value

FluidGraving is as valuable as the results. Meaning that someone who knows how to make beautiful patterns will be more sought-after than someone who does the most basic patterns.
Patterns created this way are more cosmetic than practical. Namely because many similar practical uses can be achieved by BurnFlow pen.

Dangers

The issue with FluidGraving is that it destabilizes the internal structure of the items it is used on, reducing its durability and causing a vulnerability. It is not uncommon that the items that underwent FluidGraving broke or got severely damaged on the FluidGraved place.
On top of that, the FluidGraver themselves are risking huge pain or worse in case their focus snap during the process. This would result in exposure to Fluid Flow and following Fluidic Momentum.
