Acquisition
The Corruption on Atocitera slowly accumulates inside everyone one way or another. Be it by coming into direct contact with it, or by consumption of things that were affected by it. At first, it might seem harmless, but Corruption slowly attacks the psychological stability of the individual as its concentration gets higher. When the concentration gets high enough the Corrupted limit comes instantly upon next exposure with raw Corruption. Once the body gets tainted by the Corrupted limit, its presence is permanent. Raider are always facing the risk of coming into contact with a critical amount of raw Corruption, such intense exposure instantly determines their limit, and even paralyzes weaker-willed ones. Due to the inability to properly quantify the Corruption no one knows if they are still safe if they risk losing their mind the next time they get exposed or if they already pose a serious threat to people around them.We are not telling you this all to scare you. There are plenty of other monstrosities for that. No, we are telling you this because it is inevitable and you need to plan around it. Symptoms
Corrupted limit is different person to person. The luckier ones have it slowly nab at their psyche, leading them to a spiral of self-destruction if they give in, never finding out what the limit took away. The more unlucky ones are Raiders who rely on their own physical strength and attributes in order to survive and gather as much as possible. These Raiders often receive their limits when they get exposed to raw Corruption for the first time. The limits are first imposed on individuals and later triggered by exposure to raw Corruption and always completely shut down part of the physical or mental abilities of the affected individuals. A Raiders without a limit, who works on their strength all the time risks that their muscles will lose the majority if not all their strength when the limit is triggered. Or someone who relies on their eagle sight will have their vision becoming blurry, or even gets blind altogether.After the exposure to raw Corruption ceases, the effect of the limit ceases as well. But during the time of the exposure, this sudden weakness can be a deciding factor between life and death. Many Raiders then decide to give up relying on whatever the limit took away, and focus on improving in other fields. Because of this attitude, the sooner one gets exposed to corruption the better. The question then comes how well the young ones fight the psychological effects. The psychological aspect of Corruption is not exactly tied to the limit but is still described hand in hand when kids are taught about the dangers of Atocitera.
It comes in the form of an unknown voice, teasing, daring, luring one to become amoral, selfish, and careless. This voice comes during the moment of least emotional and psychological stability when the chances are high that the affected individual will give in. The voice can be ignored and one can fight against its lures by sheer will and morals alone. It then comes without a second thought that people who actually listen to this voice are outcasts of society which was built exactly on the values opposite to what Corruption propagates.
Fighting against the psychological effect of Corruption is also in one's desire, as the corruption of one's mind directly translates into how intensely their limits apply when triggered. Those who give in to the lure of Corruption slowly lose what makes them humans. If they ever shred their humanity completely, they become twisted and more monstrous each day. Not only in psychological aspects, but also in physiological. Their bodies start changing rapidly, and their limit is reversed, making their former weakness into massive strength and advantage instead. However, those who go down this path are seen and considered as monsters without anyone thinking there is hope for them.
Treatment
While the limit is set during the exposure to Corruption, the intensity by which it is applied is tied to the corruption of the individual. In cases where the affected individuals give in to the voice, their state will be getting worse and worse the more they listen.People who fall victim to lures of Corruption are often given second chance. Purification via Void shrine allows one to recompose themselves, and correct their way of thinking. In case the individual will accept the allure of Corruption for the second time, the death sentence will be imminent and without any additional warning. For such individuals are a danger to all around them.
Discovery
It was right after the the Cataclysm that the effects of Corruption were discovered. The ones who saw through the threat of it decided to flee on the Atocites during the The grand migration mere decade after it the Cataclysm. People in seats of power during these ancient times gave in to the lures instantly, for them, it was music to the ear, as it justified their already very corrupt nature. The ones who did not give in to the corruption were at a disadvantage, as their strength to fight back the corrupted lords and kings was taken away by the Corrupted limits imposed on them. At first, it was believed that the Cataclysm caused the changes, but this was later disproven when the first generation born on Atocites, occasionally suffered the same fate as people before the migration. After some more research, strict morals and values were agreed on and imposed on everyone living on Atocites. As the first Void shrine was still centuries in the future, the people of Atocitera had to live knowing that their friends or themselves might get corrupted whenever the morals and rules were violated.
