Giant Eagle

A Giant Eagle is a massive bird of prey of various species native to the Giant's Realms or enlarged from native species through supernatural means. Too often mistaken for the similar-looking Gwaihiri, it is important to note Gwaihiri are intelligent beings while giant eagles possess no more cleverness than ordinary birds, if not less. Like all birds of tremendous size, giant eagles are also commonly mistaken for the much larger roc.   The giant eagle is an important cultural symbol for Luxia as such a creature once nested in the Ancient Monk's Lighthouse there. After a band of adventurers drove away the bird, they realized the value of the location, and the outpost they built would over time become the city.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Giant eagles strongly resemble their smaller cousins in appearance, save for their vastly increased size, with wingspans of up to thirty or even fourty feet. Their size makes them very dangerous foes, with sharp, fast talons and the ability to grab their victims and carry them high into the air before dropping them. Even more frightening is their enormously powerful bite with their powerful beaks, which are known to be able to cut down whole trees with which to build their nests.

Ecology and Habitats

With giant animals being native to the Giant's Realms, the appearance of giant eagles elsewhere is rare; however they are still seen on occasion.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Like all giant animals, giant eagles require a massive intake of food, and as such tend to be far more aggressive than their smaller, scavenging kin, traveling far in search of food and even attacking and devouring cattle and humanoids if unable to scavenge in sufficient quantity.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Like most birds of prey, a giant eagle's eyesight is exceptionally acute, able to spot prey from vast distances.
