Fenrir Character in Atlian Subcontinent | World Anvil

Fenrir

Patron of werewolfs and binding. Chaotic neutral.   Fenrir began life as an elf. He was a mighty warrior, archer, and spell caster. He earned much fame as an elven blade singer, being unchalleneged among the elves. At some point the draconic sea god Zerkis came to unleash his wrath upon the Elvish Sea. Much destruction was wrought among the elvish folk who resided by the sea. Fenrir sailed across the sea to the lands of the dragon born and desacrated a temple to Zerkis in his rage against the sea god. The whole draconic pantheon was outraged at this affront and banded together (a rare event) to exact a most terrible punishment. His punishment was to be turned into a wolf. So Fenrir became the first werewolf. After a millennia of bestiality and the creation of the werewolf race, Fenrir was caught and imprisoned by the Dwarves, predecessors to the current Ironforge Confederacy. They chained Fenrir deep within the ground with thick shackles engraved with binding runes. For 100 years Fenir raged against his bonds, time and time again his great strength wore down his chains and time and time again the dwarves reinforced them. Later in his imprisonment Fenrir began to regain his sentience. His now legendary rage began to cool and he regained his logic and reason. He regained the ability to assume his elf form and used it to escape the dwarves. The manacles binding his wrists however were magic-wrought and remain on him still.   Fenrir escaped the dwarves and returned to the mountains near his elvish homelands. He heard accounts of others afflicted with Fenrir's curse, lycanthropy, and was greatly troubled. He came to two distinct conclusions during his convalescent time among the elves: 1) his curse was causing much pain in the world 2) those afflicted with his curse were being hunted down and exterminated. He sought to right two wrongs by banding the were-folk together and showing that there was a path to rise above their curse and not give in to its bestial hunger. For the next few years Fenrir traveled far and wide seeking the offspring of those he had cursed. He founded a small village on the banks of the mountain lake Riach (called Loch Riach). There he gathered, organized, and united his scattered were-kin. For this, Fenrir is known as The Father and The Great Uniter of the were-folk. Time passed and Fenrir taught his followers how to control their beast shapes and temper the rage of that savage form.   The secret of Fenrir's hideout was made known to the dwarves when the spurned disciple of Fenrir, Lavarine the Fair (a human), betrayed the Cult of Fenrir. The dwarves formed a secret attack squad made of elite monster hunters under the command of dwarven warrior Gunhild Heavyhammer. They passed through the darkest paths of the Ever Peaks and attacked Fenrir's folk at Loch Riach. A great battle ensued in which many on both sides were killed. At the last, the dwarf shieldmaiden Sif Thunderstrike took up her fallen father's sword Callandor and drove it up under Fenrir's jaw. The blade pierced upwards through both jaws and became lodged stuck. Thus Fenrir, first of the were-kin, was slain. The dwarves count this day, the Day of Fenrir's following among their most holy and celebratory holidays, translated from dwarvish the day is Day of the Mighty Slaying or Slay Day, for short. Fenrir was brought down into a mine shaft and buried by the dwarves such that he would forever know the darkness of eternal imprisonment and also so that whatever was left of his followers would not have a martyr site to memorialize. The sword Callandor, which generates un-recoverable wounds, was unable to be recovered from Fenrir's jaws and was interred with his body.   After 5 days underground Fenrir ascended to godhood. The sword Callandor remains transfixed through God-Fenrir's jaws, and he is forever trapped within his wolf form.   The followers of Fenrir often say: Strength through unity unity through faith   Things followers of Fenrir do: -hate monster slayers -> specifically those that target werekin -adventure around the world seeking "fallen" were-kin and offering them a safe home -distrusts dwarves   The village at Loch Riach was rebuilt and there now stands a mighty fortress - the chief monastery/citadel of the Cult of Fenrir.
