The Everfrost

I've seen the realm of ice, the blizzard without end. Where the wind does not howl but screams and a breath can rip a man to shreds. They say it's a land of giants, where dragon's dare not rest. All I know is this, it is the true land of death.
  • Elrìk, Roathian poet.
  • Geography

The Everfrost is the name given to the Northernmost region of Athír. A vast and mysterious land that lies beyond the realm of men. A frozen wasteland, locked in an eternal winter. As most of land has never been explored, not much is known in terms of it's geography. What is known is that it's a treacherous expanse of ice and mountains. Deep ravines and crevasses can appear out of no where and violent blizzards can whip up at any moment.

    Notable Locations

Only a handful of areas on this perilous landmass have been named. One such area is the of Sea of Shattered Souls which lies just north of Roathia. An endless expanse made up of giant waves of ice as though a once violent sea had been frozen in time. Roathians found guilty of the most heinous crimes are sentenced to exile here, forced to face certain death as they wander the freezing waste.   Legend has it that long ago during the Age of Mythos, a mighty Kingdom of Giants stretched across what is now The Everfrost. However, during the Archonic Wars the god of winter; Nixë, was defeated and banished for eternity there, turning the entire continent into a frozen hellscape. Only a few scattered ruins remain, the only reminder of a once great kingdom. It's said that deep in the heart of The Everfrost, Nixë still remains locked away in a fortress known as the Citadel of Nixë, where he sits planning his revenge on the other gods who banished him.

    Fauna & Flora

Not much can survive the extreme climate of The Everfrost. No trees or plants of any kind grow there and only a handful of animal species are hardy enough to call it home. Walruses, seals and whales can be found in the freezing waters that surround it, along with a small number of migratory sea birds which nest along the shoreline.

    Beasts & Legends

The Everfrost is home to variety of beasts, some not seen for many years.   Giants - The Everfrost was once home to the largest Kingdom of Giants on all of Athír, however it is now said that only a few remain. Giants once occupied large parts of Northern Roathia however they were driven out after the arrival of humans nearly 1000 years ago. The last confirmed giant sighting was nearly 300 years ago when a giant named Noroth attacked Roathia but retreated into The Everfrost. More recently, sightings have been reported by parties of hunters who head into The Everfrost to hunt Walruses.

    Dralakbor
Dralakbor, a huge beast native to The Everfrost
Dralakbor - Huge bear like beasts that live in The Everfrost. Covered in thick white fur, with a long tale, incredibly sharp claws and powerful jaw that could crush a giant's head in a single bite. They are adept swimmers who are known to hunt whales, but happily feast upon anything that crosses their path.   Frost Troll - Ferocious predatory species that live high in the rocky mountains of The Everforst. They are distant relatives of giants but are far more stupid and far more vicious.   The Exiled Ones - Under the Axem Code, you can be sentenced to exile in The Everfrost if found guilty of some of the worst crimes. These wretched souls are forced to leave society and wander the frozen waste until they succumb to the cold. However, some are said to be granted a form of immortality by Nixë himself and are used as eyes for the god of winter. Usually seen standing on the tops of distant hills or rocky outcrops, motionlessly watching anyone who crosses their line of sight. If approached they seem to fade away behind heavy snow or fog. These incredibly haunting figures, often appear at times of despair when death seems to be at its closest.   Zilithtor - A huge mythical beast that only comes out of it's lair to hunt during the darkest time of the year, when the sun doesn't rise for several months. It resembles a large wolf like creature, with piercing blue eyes, a long serpentine tongue and fluorescent blue tentacles on it's back. It's a creature of nightmares, with an insatiable hunger for human flesh.   Xivrain, The White - Legend has it that Xivrain The White, last of the ice dragons, lives somewhere in the The Everfrost. Although not seen for nearly 1200 years.
