Humans

Bipedal apes who despite not being the strongest, fastest, or having any natural weapons were able to dominate the planet Earth thanks to their superior intelligence.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Humans have two legs and two arms, one head, and a neck connected to a torso. The shape of a person's body is determined by a strong skeleton made of bone and cartilage, surrounded by fat, muscle, connective tissue, organs, and other structures. The spine at the back of the skeleton contains the flexible vertebral column which surrounds the spinal cord, which is a collection of nerve fibers connecting the brain to the rest of the body. Nerves connect the spinal cord and brain to the rest of the body.

Genetics and Reproduction

Humans reproduce sexually. The gestation period is 9 months though sometimes women give birth earlier or later depending on stress or other factors. The fetus grows inside its mother's womb receiving all of its nutrition and oxygenated blood through the placenta, which is attached to the fetus' abdomen via an umbilical cord.

Ecology and Habitats

Humans can live in nearly any environment with a vast majority of people living on six of the seven continents of Earth and a small number of scientists living on Antartica.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Humans are omnivorous, capable of consuming a wide variety of plant and animal material. In the past, humans primarily hunted for their food, and while some still do most get their food from a grocery store.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Humans create complex social structures composed of many cooperating and competing groups, from families and kinship networks to political states.

Average Intelligence

Humans are one of the relatively few species to have sufficient self-awareness to recognize themselves in a mirror but amongst humans, the ability to understand complex ideas, to adapt effectively to the environment, to learn from experience, to engage in various forms of reasoning, to overcome obstacles by taking thought differs from person to person.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Humans have five basic senses: touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste.
