Session 13: The Rocky Horror Viktor Show

General Summary

With a night of botanical horror behind them, William Grimhound, Nil-enor Ulkas, Loanedth and Gul'Khaan continue their journey towards the city of A'mashara. With clouds in the sky leading to a dim day, the party's journey is stopped by a roadblock: three covered wagons blocking the crossroads.

Loanedth and Gul begin creeping up on the caravan, while Nil-enor and an impatient William directly address them. When they get close enough, they see a party of 5 hobgoblins are surrounding the caravan, as four unknown figures have their backs pressed up against the wall, prepared to defend themselves and the caravan. When William, desperate to put an end to anything between him and his daughter begins charging, battle erupts.

Gul'khaan unleashes some blast of cracling green energy that strike some of the weaker hobgoblins. But it's Loanedth, hiding in the dirt, who sets loose the arrow that pierces the eye of the hobgoblin captain, utterly demolishing him and sending rippling waves of pain that instanly kill one of the weaker goblinoids.

With battle underway, the four figures, whom one calls the Shadowfolk, fight against the hobgoblins. William buries an axe into the chest of a hobgoblin desperate to avenge his friend, and the hobgoblin captain is felled when Loanedth draws and throws Veinseeker with unerring aim, striking the captain's other eye and sending him to the ground.
Side note: Loanedth's two strikes were both critical sneak attacks.

Gul'khaan inadvertently causes a new disaster when an errant bolt of eldritch power sets ablaze one of the wagons. William attempts to usher out the family inside, but the blood-soaked, battle-axe-wielding half-naked man only terrifies the family of elves inside. Loaned, after cutting open a door, succesfully opens the door and gets them out. With the last hobgoblin felled by the drowish man, William attempts to get the caravan moving, but the goblin member of the Shadowfolk is appalled at his lack of awareness, or perhaps a lack of empathy for this families plight.

Fortunaly, the flame is extinguished, and the group each meet. The Shadowfolk, lead by Drow swashbuckler Viktor Beauvaine, are a group of do gooders ushering this family fleeing the tyranny of the lords of A'mashara. Beside him is Trish, a blindfolded Goblin monk; Reynard, a Tiefling sorcerer with a clockwork soul; and C, a half-giant of quiet temperment. Viktor explains that A'mashara has become, in recent months, an autocracy lead by corrupt lords, with everchanging laws and strict punishments for those who attempt to enter, or leave.

Sobered by Viktor's description of the city, they are told to meet Ve'dek, a Half-Orc who can be found at the Hammer and Tongs. And days of travel later, under a dark sky, our party sees the city before them.
