Super Tool

In the world of Athena Minerva, in the 23^rd century, the ultimate tool is invented and becomes manufactured on a wide scale.
The Super Tool consists of a Zen Engine collecting power from various sources, a few computer processors with a large amount of memory storage, a Human-Machine-Interface (HMI) consisting of many types of sensors, a force-field generator, audio/video projectors, and a pile of microscopic utilitarian nanobots. Each one is programmed to serve its owner using its processors to decypher a human's wishes and its ability to manufacture practically any desired object tirelessly.
The Super Tool was commissioned by the global government, "Society", as part of the Minimum Standard of Living (MSOL) Legislation, guaranteeing each human an allotment of food, health care, access to information, security, and other government services.
Within a few years, ewnough Super Tools were manufactured and distributed to give every human on the planet an interface to a globally networked computer and its manufacturing capability. A great deal of effort was then expended to ensure the "fair" or nearly-fair distribution of manufacturing capability to each person while rewarding inventors and visionaries for advancing technology even further while still allowing all people a modicum of entertainment budget to promote happiness.
Beyond the planet which sired the human race, the Super Tool was used by any Space Farer who could afford one. Such explorers were able to travel indefinitely with a single self-repairing tool capable of manufacturing a space ship capable of carrying enough food and air (with recycling) to travel and survive indefinitely anywhere (up to the power limit of the size of the zen generator).
