Equus
Equus is the capital of Equiny, located in the southwestern region of the kingdom on the Equine River.
Demographics
Equus is by and large populated by humans and tabaxi in equal measure, though there are thousands of members of other races who live there for the cultural, political, and economic benefits of residing in the Equinian capitol.
The average Equus citizen enjoys a modestly wealthy lifestyle, as Equus' connection to the massive port city and continental trade hub of Seahorse downriver and the royal courts of the human and tabaxi leadership combine to concentrate a significant portion of the kingdom's wealth in the city.
Every profession can be found here, from guild artisans to merchants to courtesans to farmers to millers to the "clandestinely employed." There are even a few collectors of magical items that may be willing to sell their treasures to the right person for the right price.
Government
As the capitol of Equiny, Equus is directly under the leadership of the heads of state and government, namely Meribeth Saddlebinder, Tiberius Finley VI and D'zoni Martin. The former is the Stable Lord, who oversees the lion's share of the day to day logistics of running the kingdom, while the latter two are the heads of the royal families of the human and tabaxi courts, respectively. Though the royals don't deal with the day-to-day routine of running the kingdom as much as the Stable Lord, they nevertheless have vital importance in maintaining diplomatic relations, kingdom legislation, managing the nobles, establishing trade, and leading the military.
Defences
Equus sits on a large hill and has massive outer walls that protect the entire city, with guard towers placed evenly across them. Different subsections of the city are divided by enormous baileys. Each bailey has a two-step gate of portcullises as well as a guard house and lookout tower.
The river entrance and exit are guarded by thick adamantine gates gifted by Forgen in an alliance centuries past which are all but impossible to break or storm. A First Ones water sanitation device within the city walls can be moved to the most upriver portion of the city, and has proven capable of cleansing any and all toxins, poisons, and biological contaminants used by enemies during sieges. Due to the massive area contained within the city walls, there is a small royal farm, but it is not nearly enough to feed the whole city in the event of siege. However, massive grain stores and unlimited fresh water make sieging Equus an arduous and time-consuming affair that would frustrate even the most patient enemy general.
Infrastructure
Equus is a large and open city, fortified by a massive outer wall built long ago by the founding families of the royal courts. The city layout was intentionally designed to have wide thoroughfares, allowing for heavy traffic and an abundance of horse travel. The Equine River runs near the center of the city, with mills and waterwheels built along it, with a First Ones water sanitation device at the river exit where the sewage passes.
Assets
The human royal treasury is held in Equus, replete with plentiful coffers, as well as a collection of fine art and many of Equiny's most prized First Ones devices that aren't in use elsewhere. There is also the Bank of Equus which serves as the de facto state bank of Equiny.
