Dragonkin Sun Sorraion
Sun is a knight, proud sister of the dragons of Nightsend, companion to one of the prized Elk who once served the god of the forest.
She is also forest-hearted. Monster kin. Possessed by wild magic and doomed to return to the forest until it kills her. It's shameful, and certainly not part of her plans for honor and glory serving the queen, nor even part of her back-up plan to serve just well enough to spend an anonymous retirement in comfort.
Physical Description
General Physical Condition
Sun is usually the tallest person in the room, and she has military posture which does nothing to mitigate that. She is slim but wide-shouldered, having never outgrown that gawky you’ll-fill-in-later adolescent stage, with muscular arms especially.
Facial Features
She has a somewhat heart-shaped face, with a long, sharp nose that has broken and healed several times over and a wide mouth. Despite her best efforts to the contrary, she tends to look eternally nervous or alarmed.
Identifying Characteristics
Like all knights, she has tattooed red dots symbolizing dragonscales under her eyes and down the middle of her forehead. Her hair is undercut; the sides and back of her head are kept very short and show her natural brunette; the top is long, french-braided along the crown then tied off in a short ponytail at the back, and dyed black. It is very rare for her to wear anything but her uniform.

Sun can be a bit twitchy, and pulls on her hair when her stress is particularly high or if she just doesn’t know how to react to something.

Personal history
Sun has known that she was forest-hearted for as long as she knew what that meant, and she made up her mind early on that she was not going to let it kill her without a fight. She poured herself into becoming a knight as a way to keep herself out of the forest, thriving on the hard work and the challenge of it.
She became a runner as a pre-adolescent, and was made a squire a few years later. She trained under Senior Verocyra, who was never very fond of her but did respect her work ethic. Once safely embedded with the knights, she was able to build a layer of denial about her forest-heartedness, hiding it even from herself.
Her first assignment was with the Nightsend Forest Guard, then Nightsend Keep, then the orchards.

Among the youngest knights to be assigned to the Queen's Honor Guard, and the first to be given that assignment prior to attaining Senior rank.
Mental Trauma
Any other insecurities she might have had are completely eclipsed by her fear of being forest-hearted. The fear of dying in the forest, of accidentally hurting someone, of being discovered and ostracised consume her, and she can easily tip over into complete obsession with them.

Sun is a natural hard worker, and has made herself into a deft networker. She is skilled at understanding people, and uses that understanding to chase her ambitions and make sure her secret is not exposed. She is most confident in her physical abilities--her people skills can let her down, someone can turn against her despite her best efforts, but she can only be defeated in a fight if she gives in. She can be as strong as she wills herself, and she can will pretty damn hard.

Family Ties
Sun’s mother runs a market stall selling baked goods, mostly baked by Sun’s older sister. Her mother’s husband died several years before Sun was born; her father is never mentioned. Her mother is loving, but mostly distant and busy; her sister was the primary caregiver for most of her life, but closed off when she realized that Sun was forest-hearted, even refusing to speak to her. Now, the only family Sun acknowledges are the dragons and her fellow knights.
Religious Views
Though she follows the official moratorium against "superstition" and the old gods, she still swears to them as an old habit. She does not visit the shrines, but turns her eye and would even cover for a brother or sister who does.

Sun can be charming and personable, especially one-on-one or in small groups, but it comes by force of will and can easily lapse. She tends to be particularly awkward in crowds, where she can't read everyone and tailer her affect to the audience.
