Ætherium

Also known as God-Steel. It wasn't until recently that it was discovered as being called Ætherium. This material is believed to be of divine origin. The only historical references are items that are believed to have been gifted by the gods. Those that possess these items are believed to have been given divine rights of royalty or divine ordination. There are only a few people known to own such items, and are all Kings, High Nobles or the highest ranking of Divine Orders.
There is only one known piece of this metal in its natural form and it resides in (??????). It is considered the holiest of relics.

This platinum looking metal has a blueish hue. In its natural form, it is a dull navy blue.

What is known thus far:

It is harder than steel. This metal is extremely difficult to work with and requires magical fire to work the material. Any items made entirely of this metal have always been of at least masterwork quality. Ætherium possesses a primal magical (æthereal) nature and anything created with it is considered magical.

It is a platinum color with a blueish hue. Ætherium is slightly stronger than steel and slightly lighter. It gets its name from its suspected connection to all things magical. Anything crafted from this material is always considered magical. By its very nature It has innate qualities to harness and focus magical energies from any tradition.

It must be rune-forged to be usable in making items. The process of working this material has been lost to time and the ancient people that knew the secrets have vanished millennia ago.

Ætherium can come in three grades and the benefits vary depending on the runes inscribed.

Low-grade – 1 set of runes have been inscribed. (level 7)

Standard-grade – 2 sets of runes have been inscribed. (Level 12)

High-grade – 3 sets of runes have been inscribed. (Level 16)

Runes come in 4 forms Arcane, Divine, Occult, and Primal. This confers a +1 item proficiency bonus to the tradition for the user of items crafted from Ætherium.
Example:

High-grade with 2 divine and 1 arcane would provide a +2 item proficiency bonus to divine and a +1 item proficiency bonus to arcane. If it had 3 divine would provide a +3 item proficiency bonus to divine.

History

The recent discovery of an ancient Race and Culture "The Anarosians", has discovered that these beings used Ætherium extensively, and are the only known beings that have uncovered methods for working the material. It was discovered that this metal is a preferred material they used for storing and enhancing magical, divine and psionic power due to its natural magical qualities. It appears that this race became extinct millennia ago and there is little to nothing known about where or how they came across this material or their methods for working it. It is still unknown whether any other races or civilizations have found deposits. Items that have been found made from this metal are highly sought after and are considered divine relics.

Due to its properties and the techniques used to work with this metal, Incredible artifacts have been created with this material. For those fortunate enough to learn the secrets, extremely powerful and valuable items can be created.
