Astarikan Mountains

The Astarikan Mountains are a very rugged and high mountain range located at the western edge of Astarikaz, stretching westward towards the Bimarric Mountains. While occupying a significantly smaller area than the Bimarrics, the Astarikan Mountains are generally much taller, with their tallest peaks reaching altitudes of well over 6000 meters. Due to the high elevations, most mountain peaks as well as high plateaus between them are covered by mighty glaciers throughout most of the year, with some glacier tongues almost reaching the sea close to the Nemilian Rainforest regions.   The mountain range appears to be relatively young and active, with several earthquakes occuring frequently and endangering hamlets and villages high up in the mountains. Several volcanoes are also located in the mountain range, with some of them appearing to be active. The highest mountain in the entire range, the Arrow of Taari, is such a volcano, but it appears to be currently dormant.   Due to the high elevation and geological activity, the mountain range is largely unpopulated, although several towns and castles have been built in the outskirts of the range. A notable example is the fortified town of Garramon, located high up in the far northeastern promontory of the range close to the forest line near the source of the Hagol River.
