Celestial Gate

Celestial Gate is a celestine world that was effectively taken over by Mariel Issek.
Just over a century ago, she hired pirates to raid Celestial Gate. She waged a quiet trade war while funding raiders, until their government essentially collapsed, then took over the system. In every way that matters, she owns Celestial Gate outright.
Celestial gate is a theocracy that is particularly strict about the purity of the priesthood. If a member of the priesthood is 'defiled' then they suffer strict punishment. The sentence grows harsher the more highly placed you were: at lower ranks it might simply be expulsion from the priesthood, then exile for higher ranks, and finally execution.
