Atanar

The atanar are a bipedal species, approximately two meters tall. They possess four arms, the upper pair longer than the lower, and much of their society is based around the number four. They have implants to enhance their immune systems.
In atanar society, those born within a twenty-four cycle period are raised in a creche together, with a maximum grouping of twenty-four members per creche. They are raised and educated together until adulthood, forming their own familial units in that regard, as well as fulfilling the desired roles in atanar society.
Their god is Hinur and their society is known as the Hinurate Imperium. This is an authoritarian theocracy which has removed all sources of dissent; it's been over fourteen thousand years since the Imperium had a protest with more than a hundred individuals.
The atanar have developed advanced AIs called Great Minds.

The atanar are actually from another universe and have come to this one through the gateway in the Specter system. They have been kidnapping people from this universe to sacrifice as offerings to Hinur. He requires twelve to the fourth power of offerings before he will be able to pass over into this universe.
There are three factions of atanar with different views on how to interact with this universe:

Integrationists. They believe that the best odds for keeping the atanar people and culture alive is to adjust to survive in this universe and integrate to become natives. They are the smallest and least powerful group, referred to as 'Impure' by the others.

Expeditionaries. These are the most aggressive. They think that the atanar should abandon whatever they can't bring through from their universe and instead conquer native species and rebuild their empire here.

Preservationists. This group want to bring into this universe not just all the atanar people but their home world as well.
