Umbrian

Umbrian is a large city on the island continent of Harnor and is home to the majority of the continent’s magical talents. Umbrian is also the hub of trade that takes in all incoming vessels from the smaller island nations off the western coasts as well as trade coming in from the East along the Dewa Trade Road. Umbrian is situated at the mouth of the Dewa River.   The city is split into districts based on the central market hub of roads that criss-cross the main city.

Districts

  1. Tower Gardens - Named for the large spiral tower that stretches high above the city. The Tower itself houses the mage guild of Umbrian. Most of the guild is concerned with perfecting the art of transmutation and evocation. The transmuters are concerned with reinforcing the stability of the city’s walls as well as the roads through the city and around it. There is a single mage that insists on the magic of conjuration as the key to solving a lot more problems but most of his magic doesn’t seem to work. The rest of the district has accumulated the wealthier individuals of the town, as well as the temples to the main gods of Law.
  2. Flowers Perch - This district serves as one of the larger residential areas for the city of Umbrian. Second most recent area of the city of Umbrian, the buildings within this district are made primarily of stone. The district got its name from the plentiful flower beds that were built into the various ledges built into the buildings. The district contains much of the residential buildings but also contains a few shops and several taverns.
  3. Artisan Alley - Something of a misnomer as there are more than just one alley, but this district of Umbrian hosts the highest density of speciality shops and stores. Permanent craftsman and special order shops give this district its name. While the Market is more free flowing and where you go to buy groceries, trinkets, and see what the caravans have brought into Umbrian, The Alley is where you go when you need something made or you cannot find it anywhere else.
  4. Pelican Roost - Second oldest residential area within the city, the Roost was the first part of expansion the city of Umbrian. A mixture of stone and wood buildings next to the river typically served as roosts for the pelicans that would fly in from the ocean. It was also the first home of many of the fisherman before the Roost became residential for merchants whereas the fishermen eventually moved back towards the Quayside.
  5. Steward’s Watch - Originally this area was once the small keep before Nightstone Castle was established on the other side of river to defend the city. Now the Watch District is where the Magistrate resides with a small contingent of guards. Now that the Fortress exists the old keep walls were dismantled and the various buildings that had been contained within the walls have been converted to governmental buildings.
  6. Quayside District - The original district of the city of Umbrian. It is still one of the busiest districts of Umbrian but as with most large cities the docks and adjoining warehouses. Quayside is loud, dirty, and full of the hustle and bustle as cargo comes into and leaves the city of Umbrian via ship.
  7. Market - The central portion of the city is an open air market that has permanent stalls around the perimeter and carts within the hub. The area is almost always busy and loud with traffic and shoppers.
  8. Wall slums - simple buildings built along the base of the wall of the city, these buildings are not well constructed and are occupied by much of the lower class of the city
  9. Nightstone Castle - home to the prison and main garrison of Umbrian and its army that patrols the surrounding areas.
