Scope

The motivation behind building Astral Confined

This world is being built for the main reason of creating an endearing setting for eventual D&D or Pathfinder campaigns. It is also a way for myself to get better at writing and train my worldbuilding skills.

The goal of the project

I'm hoping to improve my vocabulary and the way I describe situations to players. My previous worldbuilding projects have been very limited and messy due to certain restrictions that I had little control over. Starting fresh with no limits feels like a good idea.

Astral Confined's Unique Selling point

This world, unlike my other settings, is its heavy Fantasy facade hiding a sliver of Science Fiction. Moreover, the timeline is not fixed and progresses with every campaign, thus keeping the world fresh as more gets discovered every time.

Theme

Genre

My world is a mix of High Fantasy and Science Fiction, which I've decided to call Futurist Fantasy. Magic is a rather common sight across Kephrot Wickealis while technology differs from one faction to another. Furthermore, any advanced technology of "Spacer-level" and beyond is either non-existent or incredibly difficult to get.

Reader Experience

This world is meant to feel half-realistic by keeping a somewhat grounded base while adding supernatural and strange elements for modern humans to view for their own eyes. The real world being both beautiful and terrifying, which fits the state of Kephrot Wickealis. I wish to show Players a world that they could live in and experience through its ups and downs on top of influencing it, no matter how little it may be.

Reader Tone

It is hard to answer that question due to how vast this world is. Certain environments are more unforgiving than others. But overall, it is neither bright nor dark but a somewhere in the middle.
Living on Kephrot Wickealis is not as easy as living in modern times as death is still very much present in the forms or monsters, diseases and political tensions.

Character Agency

Player and/or main characters have a lot of agency, essentially allowing them to progress through the world as they wish. Every action will have consequences, good or bad, with or without a long-lasting change depending on the nature of said action.
As such, Kephrot Wickealis will either progress, stagnate or recess in certain areas depending on the Players' choices.
