Khanosti's Prison

Summary

When the Comet Krio fell at the feet of Velpraxa during the great Calamity, Khanosti, Archshaman and protector of Zantyra, was killed along with thousands of others that had gathered for the feast. While many bodies were recovered, the majority were left buried within the Wraithshear Mountain.
There are those among the land-dwellers of Zantyra that would say Khanosti did not perish that day, but is imprisoned deep within the heart of Wraithshear. Unable to reconcile the loss of their Shaman, the people look to the peak and curse the Eshiddians, blaming them for keeping Khanosti from them.
One day, if they can rid Wraithshear of the Eshiddian plauge, the Shaman might be set free and set Xoboros right. With him, the Velpir will rise up and the world will have its protectors once again. Then, peace will be restored to the land and Krio's blight will pass.

Historical Basis

Khanosti's presense at the feast is largly presumed. As head of his order, the shaman was likely present along with members of his family. No survivors were ever recovered and there is no tangible reason to believe Khanosti did not perish with the other celebrants. Had he survived, the changed in the light provied by the sun Teriztrad no longer sustained the Velpir that did survive, leading to their extinction.

Variations & Mutation

Some members of Khanosti's Heart believe that after this much time has passed, Khanosti must have moved on to the aether, but will one day be reborn. With this belief in mind, they have dedicated their lives to the care and nurture of plants.

Cultural Reception

While the legend of Khanosti's prison is widely told on the Zantyran mainland the majority don't believe Khanosti would have been able to survive. Khanosti's Heart was founded by a congregation of Hypsig and Iguandi, but their numbers remain small.
Whlie the story is known to the Desmodon, there are few within the archipeligo that give any credance to the story. Whether the tale has spread to the heart of Zantyra, deep beneath the surface, is yet unknown.
