Gozneth's Promise Myth in Astraeus Zephyrus | World Anvil

Gozneth's Promise

For nearly a thousand years, no Vampyrum had dared try to reclaim their homeland, the Echo Caverns, from the Kriosyn Molo'chorr. A brave huntress named Gozneth longed to return to the homeland of her ancestors. One night, dreamed of Mezzna, the god of the great crystaline moon her people held dear.  Mezzna showed her a vision of her homeland and in it, Gozneth saw herself leading a great army through the night sky. Their wings beat like thunder beneath the cloudless moon as they entered the caves. Fighting at the head of the army, Gozneth and her army slaughtered the Molo'chorr in the thousands. She marched her warriors deeper into the heart of the Abyssal Chamber until she came face to face with the dark master himself, Siv.  In bloody combat Mezzna showed that Gozneth would be filled with his divine power and with his strength, she would nearly lose her life. In the end, she and her armies would emerge victorious and together they would feed on the hearts of their oppressors.   In her dream she saw how many lives were lost and her heart was heavy. Was such a cost worthwhile? Surely returning to their home would allow them to recover from such losses and Mezzna had promised to bless her effort.   Putting her faith in Mezzna, Gozneth spread the tale of her vision. In time, she amassed an army of thousands. They armed themselves with Damor'lych armor and weapons, taking to the skies they would descend on Siv and erase his blight from Zantyra.

Historical Basis

Gozneth was a reknowned huntress, but her effort to retake the Echo Caverns never came to fruition. In time, however, many Vampyrum came to look toward Gozneth for her bravery in at least trying to gain support.  It was not until four thousand years after her death that a combined force of Vampyrum and Mezznian Molo'chorr would try to retake the caverns.
