The Space Devil: Chapter 2

Do you young lads, want to tell me just what the hell you are doing here?" A stern and angry man, emblazoned with the blue and red of the Federation Marines, spoke. His comrades in arm spreading out around the battered and bruised group. Their guns tight in their arms, looking for the slightest movement.   "Running from a really angry group of Jeraci battlecruisers, what did it look like?" One voice boomed above the others, belonging to who else but Fraw. The damn loudmouthed fool.   "And who might you be?"   "Richard Frawley, who the hell are you?"   The marine stopped for a moment, as another crew member whispered something in his ear. Both of their eyes periodically moving to Fraw's direction. Eventually the crew member departed and the marine returned his full attention to the group.   "Richard Frawley, you are wanted by Envien, Serdican, Retriconian and even Spaldian authorities for quite a number of charges. 3 first degree murders, smuggling, piracy, and that's not to mention the four treason charges. Do you know how many death sentences that is? God knows what you're wanted for in Jerace, but I doubt it's anything good."   Seeing this argument going for a good while Blaze decided to step in. "Look, we're just running from the Jeraci, surely we can come to some sort of deal here?"   "If it were up to me we'd have you all under the firing squad within the hour. Luckily for you, that won't be happening. It seems you got attacked by the right Jeraci Fleet."   The next three hours were three hours of confusion. The marine leader had told them to get back on the ship and get it into shape, anything they needed would be provided, within reason of course. Crew members from the ship assisted in the repair. A entire new jump drive was requisitioned from a transport ship, as well as another 2 dozen other parts that lay ruined. Doctors were rushing across the ship, carrying dozens of injured and dozens more dead. Blaze had sat for a while, contemplating and questioning the actions of the Federation. Occasionally giving out orders and carrying out repairs of his own.   By the time repairs were done, the ship looked like it had just come of the production line, not fresh our of a battle. The hallways were pristine, blood and debris cleaned, bodies removed. And so was the rest of the ship. Blaze still wandered the halls, still thinking. Nothing made sense, the Navy was actually letting them go. This had to be a first in history, the Navy aren't known for letting people, especially criminals go.   Yet as the ship rose out of the hanger of the carrier, he realised that was exactly what was happening. Nothing blew up, no virus curtailed the ship of life, nothing. Standing on the bridge again and looking out towards the endless void had never felt so freeing. They had lost so much, Blaze's own thoughts constantly returning to his brother, laying there, now on a Federation carrier, destined for the expansive void of space.   At long last he was able to breathe, and enjoy the thrill of spaceflight. He turned to Brook alongside who had the biggest smile anyone had ever seen.    "Where to Captain?"   "Home Brook, home."    At the very last moment, the very last, as Brook pulled the lever that would send them spirally to a new place in the Galaxy a large cruiser launched through the abyss directly in front of them. Almost colliding alongside. A Hunter Class, one of the few in the Galaxy. All of them owned by the Federation, all of them dangerous and not to be trifled with under the best circumstance. A big bump indicated to the crew that they were trapped again, or rather, that they had never been free at all.   "Hey Captain, I uh don't think we're going home anytime soon."
