Lord Shandar (a.k.a. The Arrowhawk)

An infamous gentleman thief in Everton, this mystery man was the grief of many a Watchwolf until his identity was revealed.

Physical Description

Body Features

Shandar has green scales which shift in tint and shade with his moods. He can shift their color completely in order to camouflage himself. A crest of emerald feathers grows from the back of his head and down his neck. When agitated, a frill of leathery skin spreads from his neck and he bares his sharp teeth. His fingers grow sharp claws, but he keeps them tidily filed to dull points.

Special abilities

As a dragonborn, Shandar inherited his dam's arcane magic. He hasn't had much in the way of magical training but can perform basic cantrips such as detect magic, flare, and ghost sound. He uses these tricks to aid in his thievery, misdirecting potential witnesses and law enforcement from his presence. Similarly, his natural ability to camouflage himself is an effective tool to avoid detection.

Apparel & Accessories

Shandar wears expensive silk robes of bright colors, unafraid to look bold and stand out among a sea of nobles wearing neutral colors. He likes the shine of jewelry—fine, gemmed necklaces and bracelets, and sometimes a golden ring through his nostrils. He refrains from wearing rings, finding them a nuisance when he has to transition from business to larceny.

His signature Arrowhawk mask is customized to fit his face, baring a gray, osseous beak with sharp teeth and a crest of golden feathers that overlays his own. He always leaves one feather behind as a calling card; they sparkle oddly in the light.

Personal history

Lord Shandar is the son of the Dragonlord Astilabor and an unknown sire. He is of the noble elite of Everton, trained in statecraft as well as falling into thievery at a young age. He was raised by a distant father until the end of his adolescence and was then expected to use his privileged education to follow into the world of business. He started a security company, Ouborus Security, which protected homes from burglars through mundane security systems as well as magical wards. Unbeknownst to the public, many of his clients were robbed by "the Arrowhawk" before they came to him for help reinforcing their security.

Intellectual Characteristics

Lord Shandar has a silver tongue, using his skills in speech and manners to hold the edge in conversations, especially with nobles of equal status. He has an easy way of putting people off their guard.

Morality & Philosophy

Shandar sees little harm with his larceny, especially considering the highborn nature of most of his targets. Though he may be a noble himself, he often loses patience with them. He considers many to be beneath his interest. Though a thief and therefore a criminal, Shandar is not a violent man, and draws the line at murder.

Shandar lives two worlds: one of privilege and luxury and another of danger and excitement. He greedily holds on to both worlds, breaking the law to satiate his hunger for excitement while also enjoying the benefits of his privilege. He loves a good challenge.

Lord Shandar is a connoisseur of fine tobacco, choosing to smoke expensive halfling pipeweed imported from Freeport. He similarly uses a variety of luxury perfumes, though some of these are deliberate tools of misdirection to hide his scent. He enjoys fine brandy and drinks of high alcohol content, savoring the burn of it.

Shandar has many professional relationships among the gentry of Sylvanmere as well as contacts with representatives of the mercenary companies he sometimes subcontracts to. Additionally, his dam's draconic nature gives him a sense of kinship with fellow dragonborns and dragon kin.

Shandar is wealthy, inheriting title and money from his sire as well as earning coin from his lucrative security business and pawning off the spoils of his larceny. He has hoarded wealth enough to live comfortably for the remainder of his life. He lacks a generous spirit, keeping his money at hand despite the fact that, even with his lifestyle, he couldn't spend it all.
