A creature beyond the natural world, the Night Mare visits strangers in the dark of the Feywild and offers deals in exchange for sleep. It is heralded by echoing hooves from the dark. To be visited by the Night Mare is to face your deepest self.
Physical Description
Body Features
Its physical form superficially resembles a horse; however, its uncanny qualities prevent anyone from mistaking it as such. It walks with an unnatural gait. Its smiles hide the sharp teeth of a predator. It has fur that shifts like oil across its body, black as pitch, with undertones of blue and green. Its mane is perpetually damp, dripping, dripping like all of it. The liquid that spills from it seemingly comes from nowhere, and people claim to see shadowy images in its reflection. Sometimes, the Night Mare rises on its hind legs and lurches like a thing never meant to be bipedal. There are pendulums in its eyes—if you look directly into them, you will fall into a deep sleep.
Physical quirks
The Night Mare smiles like a dog, baring predatory and decidedly un-horselike teeth. Its hoofbeats sound like an entire herd of galloping horses. It constantly drips a dark, unknown liquid.
Special abilities
The Night Mare has dominion and control of the dreams of all mortals. It can induce a person to sleep, to dream, and then consumes the magic in potentia of its sleeping victim. This process does not phsyically harm the dreamer, though imparting nightmares can create emotional pain. Tales tell that the Night Mare can pull images from an individual's dream and make them reality. To what extent this power works is unknown.
Whether for good or ill, its arrival always means change.

Personal history
The Night Mare was birthed from the creation of dreams. It is the physical manifestation of the Astral Plane in the Material Plane. At some point, it was trapped in the Feywild, later becoming a member of the Unseelie Court.
Morality & Philosophy
The Night Mare governs and watches the dreams of mortals. It will make bargains to preserve its privacy, in exchange for warding away bad dreams. If you cross it or its will, it has the power to trap you within your own mind in endless dreams or nightmares. It considers the former to be a gift, the latter a punishment.

Contacts & Relations
The Night Mare is a satellite member of the Unseelie Court—independent of lord or master but allowed a place among the Archfey. It lives on the edges of Court, interacting with few of the Fey—them who cannot dream. Some of the shimmerlings follow the Night Mare in a distant swarm, feeding on the dream dust in its wake and eating the flesh from its sleeping victims.
Because it is trapped within the Feywild by the Barrier, the Night Mare's material interactions with mortals are limited to those manage to cross the border south. Otherwise, it makes connections through dreams. Nobody knows in whose mind it lurks.

Its voice has a hissing quality as if speaking through the gaps of an empty skull.
