Citrine Tower

The Citrine Tower

was the seventh of the Mage Towers to be constructed. Unlike the previous six, which were each dedicated to an element of magic, this tower is dedicated to the school of healing magic. Any students of Nalmorra who show an interest or aptitude for healing are sent here after their third year of general magical studies. It is the foremost center for the study of medicine and disease in the United Cities.   The first two floors of the tower are an operating hospital. Though most villages have their own healer, they often are only capable of the simplest of spells. Those that have more serious ailments and injuries get brought here to be healed by the students.   The third and fourth floors are dedicated to the study of unidentified diseases, such as the waste syndrome common near the Dead Lands. Each floor is divided into 10 quarantine zones, each studying a different disease.   The remaining two floors are dorms and classrooms where the students sleep and study.   Most United Cities Army medics, as well as the staff at Shah-General and West Bank Hospital were trained at the Citrine Tower.

On the Mend

Often people ask why the tower has two floors dedicated to the hospital, rather than just having an office for the sick to have heal cast upon them, and use that space for more research instead. The answer is simple: magic isn't perfect.    Every day more advances are made, but the City Mages are ever aware that magic can go wrong, or may even disappear one day. The Dead Lands are an example of this. As such, while spells are of course used in dire circumstances, the students are encouraged to learn medicine the old fashioned way, that they may keep the knowledge alive, and still be valuable should the unthinkable happen.
