Xeri and the White Beast
It was at the end of the age of gods
When the nights were darker
When the winds blew colder
When silence was a blessing and a curse
That a hero should appear
But look upon her face and you would not know
She was born of man
Just like you and I
She was not blessed
Just like you and I
She suffered great loss
So that you and I would not
She had no weapons
She had no magic
She had no wealth
She had no power
She had nothing to stand up to those who tormented us all
Until the silver beast
We do not know how it found her
Or if she found it
We do not know what it gave her
Or what she gave it
We only know that it changed her
And that she changed it
And so "Xeri the Cursed" marched to battle
To fight the gods themselves
She loosened their grip on our world
But died long before it had been broken
And of the terrible beast that started it all
Nothing but words remain
When the nights were darker
When the winds blew colder
When silence was a blessing and a curse
That a hero should appear
But look upon her face and you would not know
She was born of man
Just like you and I
She was not blessed
Just like you and I
She suffered great loss
So that you and I would not
She had no weapons
She had no magic
She had no wealth
She had no power
She had nothing to stand up to those who tormented us all
Until the silver beast
We do not know how it found her
Or if she found it
We do not know what it gave her
Or what she gave it
We only know that it changed her
And that she changed it
And so "Xeri the Cursed" marched to battle
To fight the gods themselves
She loosened their grip on our world
But died long before it had been broken
And of the terrible beast that started it all
Nothing but words remain
Summary
The prose tells the story of Xeri the Cursed and how she gained the power with which to fight the gods.
Historical Basis
It is widely known that a woman named Xeri was the start of the rebellion against the old gods. She wielded immense power and was able to break several holds that had been placed over the magical power of mortals. During the years that followed, she became a mysterious figurehead for the struggle. Eventually, she fell in battle, but not before she had put in so much effort that the war had turned in favor of the mortals.
No one truly knows where she got her power, but every recollection of the era speaks of some sort of contract with a "White Beast".
Spread
Nearly every culture in the world has some story or myth regarding Xeri, but this particular one is common to The Republic of Thorns.
