Forge Venting
"If you ever approach Hammerdon's Mettle and find it oddly quiet, look to the northern hills. You'll probably find most of its inhabitants enjoying a nice picknick on the slopes. Make sure you join them before the clock strikes noon, or you'll be a laughing stock for the remainder of your stay in the city. And since dwarves have long memories, they may not even let you live it down if you were to leave."
Utility
At the outset, the use of the Forge Vents seems simple. A large piece of machinery empties the tunnels of the mountains of dangerous vapors, cleans them, and then vents the purified steam to the outside. This process is performed monthly.
Manufacturing
It takes the joined forces of en entire city of inventors to create a system like this and it is unlikely that it could ever be repeated.
Access & Availability
The system can be used only by The Guilds, but the information regarding the structure of the vents is open for everyone to take part in. Since it was built on the foundation of several other technologies it is believed that this too should be shared information.
Complexity
The Forge Vents are a combination of wind-tunnels, sluices, pressure chambers, cooling locks, gas refiners, and almost every other system developed in the mining business. It requires all of these systems to work in tandem and there are several crews constantly working with the upkeep of its parts.
Discovery
The research behind the venting system was done over centuries with information passed on between several guilds and families. Many different systems were developed before they could all be combined in this massive undertaking.
