  • The Salamandron’s Famine
    The 1st Cataclysm
    Disaster / Destruction

A heatwave encompassing the world, drying farmland to cracking ground and dust, withering crops as they stood, and severely limiting rainfall and water flow across the planet. Myth holds that the proto-Navarresean scholar invoked Higher Magic for the first time and calmed the sun, though this would later be blamed for the second cataclysm.

  • Wodr’s Revenge
    The 2nd Cataclysm
    Disaster / Destruction

Great freezing temperatures encompassed the globe and transformed weather patterns in nearly every country. Even deserts saw snowfall, and rare was the river that did not freeze over. Scholars blame this happening on the wild Higher Magic loosed by pre-Navarreasean wizards, but the culprit was an overabundance of Ice pneuma stilling the world beneath an oppressive blanket of frost. This is of course an IC retcon name as Wodr was not largely in contact with the people of this world and certainly was not a madman at this point in history.

    The First Celestial Campaign
    Military action

The Navarresean's war against the dragons.   The First Celestial Campaign was a monumental and bloody chapter in Navarresean history, ordered by Emperor Caelum Aes'Thiir as part of his vision to expand the empire's dominion into the untamed lands of northern Halinor—territory fiercely guarded by dragons. The campaign saw the full military force of the Navarresean See deployed against the dragon siblings Skadraxes, Wodirethrax, and Durnirax, who united to repel the elven invaders.   As the war raged, Krisnarax, a powerful dragon from the southern islands, flew to aid his kin, his arrival bolstering the dragons' strength and forcing the Navarresean forces into retreat. Just as defeat seemed imminent for the elves, the brilliant yet ruthless General Isandor Vael'Dorath, with weapons bestowed by the fabled Omnistrix, confronted Krisnarax in a decisive battle. After a grueling clash, the general slew the mighty dragon, shattering the morale of the remaining defenders.   With Krisnarax’s death, the tides turned, and the Navarresean See surged forward, routing the dragon siblings and claiming victory. The campaign solidified the empire's foothold in Halinor but at a staggering cost, leaving behind a smoldering resentment from dragonkind.

    The War of Enchanted Anvils
    Military: War

Also known as the Second Celestial Campaign   The Second Celestial Campaign was a protracted and grueling conflict initiated by Emperor Isandor Vael'Dorath, who turned the Navarresean See's might against the dwarven tribes of central Halinor. Spanning nearly 800 years, this campaign sought to subjugate the dwarves and claim their rich mountain strongholds, which were renowned for their exceptional craftsmanship, magical artifacts, and vast mineral wealth.   This campaign was defined by relentless sieges, brutal subterranean battles, and a clash of ideologies—elven magicks versus dwarven necromancy   The conflict also became a crucible for scientific and magical progress within the empire. Breakthroughs in pneuma manipulation, breathstone weaponry, and biomancy pushed the boundaries of elven knowledge, often at the cost of morality. Many of these advancements were directly applied to the war effort, creating devastating new tools of destruction.   However, the campaign’s conclusion was not brought about by victory but by calamity. The Third Cataclysm, known as the Tempest of Madness, drowned the Navarresean See in torrential rains ending not just the war, but the Navarresean See as well.

  • The Tempest of Madness
    The 3rd Cataclysm
    Disaster / Destruction

The great rains brought not just floods around the world, washing out crops, riverbanks, and more, but an insidious madness that infested those fallen to the waters where they might have otherwise drowned. Rare records are rumored to exist where such survivors ranted and raved about voices from beneath singing every despair. This cataclysm was especially dangerous due to the mixture of a second elemental’s influence though it was primarily fueled by Water. Portals were opened to drain off these waters, buying time for the flood of water pneuma to naturally disperse.

    The 4th Cataclysm
    Disaster / Destruction

Civil war erupts in most countries, and those that avoid it find brother turning against brother, families falling apart, and an increase in lawlessness and banditry that has not subsumed even to this day. Scholarly research has loosely tied the previous, temporally-close cataclysm to this one, calling the influence of the maddening waters to task for spreading long term instability and in-fighting across the world. Equally strong, however, is the doubt cast upon this theory, particularly in Carinthia in the modern day. The Carinthian Church holds that the demon Azathoros was stirred in his slumber and the snores of the Fiend resonated through the world’s veil, driving mad the mortals that heard it. It is interesting to note that Carinthia in this time saw less of the civil feuds plaguing other nations and none of the theological acedia that other churches did. The dragons were able to dispel the energies eventually and prevent total madness, but the mark was left in Wodr, scarring his mind.

  • The Age of Arch De Soleil, the Panoptic Will of God
    The 5th Cataclysm
    Religious event

In the chaos that followed after the previous cataclysm (or what some call an unfortunate dark age, denying the time period the title of ‘cataclysm’ due to its more insidious nature), the nation least exposed to the perils of the world grew in prominence and promise. It is in this, the dawning of the best known histories of Carinthia, that the first and final Arch de Soleil was crowned. Leading the valiant defense of the southlands against dragonkind, Louis-roi (or King Louis) also established the dominance of the Carinthia Church inside her borders and abroad. Charitable histories called this a time of peace as paladins of the Church marched south to quell bandit camps and bring order to otherwise lawless lands, but records of the time share the other side of history–the inquisitions, the occupations, and the general insularity and fear that permeated the lands. These were indeed dark times for those that did not abide the strict laws of the realm, and following the assassination of Louis-roi the title of Arch de Soleil and -roi were never continued. The Church continued to borrow from their ancestral titles, of course, as the Arch-Bishop title was taken by Louis, but as their focus withdrew into the now insular nation familiar to modern day, this became less of an imminent concern. The influx of Law pneuma balanced and subsided with the killing of Louis-roi, saving this world.

  • The Howling Winds of Y’Set
    The 6th Cataclysm
    Disaster / Destruction

The first of the ‘Summoning’ cataclysms, the Paragon Y’Set was summoned first in the deserts of Tarwa’kem, loosing the snake-headed, eagle-winged beast into the world. Great storms of sand born on hurricane-force winds ripped over the land, spreading misery and devastation. A death-cult born of those witnessing the beast-god being summoned spread their master’s whims further, but a party of adventurer’s were able to hunt and slay the paragon. The survivors, a mere two of three, made it a short ways before being cut down by the remnants of the cult, who dispersed. Periodically they resurface but like catching the very wind in a bottle they evade authorities even unto this day.

    The 7th Cataclysm
    Disaster / Destruction

“By oaths of storm and sea” is a phrase sure to set a sailor’s jaw, for these are bonds not made lightly; they nearly ripped the world asunder, after all. Levin the Blue was a sailor who thought himself a tamer of the storms themselves, and his magic wrought the paragon Tupachachum into our world. The Lightning Eel snaked devastating turns through the skies, devastating cities along the coast and inland alike as storms of incredible power followed in its wake. While the paragon was devastating (one can visit the Beach of Glass for a reminder of the Eel’s scars on the world), it taught much to scholars. It confirmed the theory of blind allegiance and brainwashing that paragons instill on those that remain in their presence for too long, endangering even those that would slay them. Three parties of adventurers were required to slay this paragon, including the first that was turned almost to the man. The second two groups were a loose cooperation of adventuring parties, the second not even participating directly in the fight but instead supporting through magic and research ways to slay that which could not be approached. In the end victory was hard won, saving this world from the abundance of Lightning pneuma that spawned it.
