Orcs

"Tradition. Honor. Strength. What we learned on the steppes of Tatarr'kha are at our core. Take away the robes, the daishyo, the daimyo--you are still an orc."   -A samurai to his daughter during her training   The orcs of Gholmeshi and Tatarr'kha may not be Aspiria's largest population but their discipline and strength makes them among the most accomplished. Gholmeshi especially has captured attention on Halinor's turf with the strength of their navy pre-Vociran times, only supplemented by Vociran technology.   Character Traits   Orc characters start off with the following modifiers to their stats and abilities   Ability Score Increase   Increase one ability score by 2 and another ability score by 1, or increase three ability scores by 1 each.   Size   You are Medium.   Speed   Your walking speed is 30 feet.   Adrenaline Rush   You can take the Dash action as a bonus action. You can use this trait a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.   Whenever you use this trait, you gain a number of temporary hit points equal to your proficiency bonus.   Darkvision   You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of grey.   Powerful Build   You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.   Relentless Endurance   When you are reduced to 0 hit points but not killed outright, you can drop to 1 hit point instead. Once you use this trait, you can't do so again until you finish a long rest.     Orcs in Halinor   Orcs in Halinor are a rarity and stick out for for quite a few reasons. They tend to be taller and more broadly built than most humans--indeed all the native species of Halinor. Additionally their garb and weaponry all mark them as strangers, for none in Halinor adopt the same fashions. That being said, orcs tend not to receive negative attention when they travel through Halinor and are seen more as a positive curiosity. More and more have snuck into Halinor since the invasion by the Vociran Empire.   Aqualonde   Combining a love for philosophy and the natural world, orcs do get along well with the elves here. They have a different perspective on both key aspects of life here in the Fauconwood. They tend to miss the heirarchy in place back in their homeland of Ilsong and do not seem to readily adjust to the governing style here. Many still hold a shrine for Ilsong as it was even in the relative peace of the Fauconwood.   Avosa Tesota   Further affirming their close-but-not-quite relations with the continent, Avosa Tesota is another fine place for an orc to find themselves but hardly just like home. The closeness to the ocean and the verticality of Avosa is a good reminder of Ilsong, but the relative chaos that permeates this major city is nothing like home. Orcs often find themselves exasperated by the individualist nature of the city and wish for a more communal mindfulness.   Carinthia   Orcs are especially scarce in the frozen north but there have been a few notable travelers to this remote and frozen country that have since inspired others to follow in their wake. Heroes in the fight against the dragons, these samurai have inspired some others to follow in their footsteps, resulting in a school devoted to their training style. Invariably orcs in Carinthia are associated with this school as the elves are not of a mind to let very many others--if any--inside their walls.   D'yadya   D'yadya has precious little to offer orcs these days--both have been conquered by the Vociran empire, after all. Ilsong had her turn under the brutal leadership of the crown prince and none are eager to take a second. Some find themselves press-ganged to the savannahs and deserts of D'yadya, however, and so travel here unwillingly in the service of their masters.   Shurevaire   It is not especially common for orcs to have gone to Shurevaire if only for the distance between Ilsong and the elven university. These days it is a more attractive option than the Ghlomeshi institutions closer to home; at least Shurevaire does not toil under the iron fist of the Vocirans. It cannot be stressed enough that orcs have no stigma of brutish natures or intelligence and so face no difficulties attending universities.   Tarwa'kem   Interestingly there is a small community of orcs here, expats that gather at the most likely meeting place of the Vocirans and those that resist them. Dagger Canyon has already played host to a skirmish between Halinor and Eldamar after all, and the orcs, survivors of the conquest back home that claimed their friends, family, and sworn lords and ladies now wait with sharp blades, eager for their vengeance.
