Eirune (Goddess)

Element: Air   Domains: The Sun, Games, Communication and Diplomacy   Cleric Domain: Light Domain   Material: While religious organizations devoted to Eirune would treasure gold as the most important metal to praise the Divinity, most often they do not have means to use such finery in any but the most sacred or special of occasions. Pinchbeck, an alloy of copper and zinc, most closely resembles gold in appearance and so that form of brass is most frequently used for the Queen of Light. In the south a more fiery red brass is used due to the availability of materials there, leading to Her nickname as the Daybreaker for the metal's resemblance to a red dawn.

Summary

The Queen of Light, the Daybreaker, the Lady of Games--Eirune is among the most important Divinities, equal in glory to the Divine King. Rather than rule Her province is compromise, communication, and conciliation. The diplomatic Divinity patrons the most precious of society's foundations and so enjoys devotion from government officials and workers most important to its short-term and long-term benefit. The people too have cause to love Her, for it is Her influence that brings communities together through games. The Aspirants' Tournament is held twice a decade barring an on-going cataclysm, bringing challengers from across Halinor to compete for gold and glory in a variety of games.

Cultural Reception

It goes without saying that the elves of Carinthia do not partake in open worship of the Queen of Light. Detractors are quick to point out the feeble imitation of sunlight the north receives in return. The Carinthians have yet to be swayed by this argument.   Aqualonde is the polar opposite. A land of light and games in the best of times and fiercely protective of their borders in the worst.   Avosa Tevosa is an adventurous people praying for Eirune's light instead of Tyrachon's storms. Inland the oldest temples to Eirune can be found in the Jungles of Ramitan, squared pyramids raised to the Queen of Light. On the coast morning rituals are popular, both for the coastal cities threatened by storm and sea but especially for the ships.   Tarwa'kem speaks with pride of their temples devoted to Eirune even if She is not patron of the city. Their efforts toward the Games are always a show of wealth and power, a fifteen-year chance to flex the kingdom's devotion. Of course some might snidely jest that the merchant-state has mistaken the sun for some other, smaller golden circle, but there are some forms of glory even coin cannot buy.

In Art

Brilliant, athletic, regal--the Queen of Light has many a look across Her depictions in Halinor, but these traits are among the most prominent. Aqualonde shows Her as an elf strong and blonde, Tarwa'kem as a human dark of hair and undeniably regal (an honorific paid to the ruling dynasty). In Avosa Tevosa they are content to show Eirune as a brilliant halo of flames, evoking the sun and a majesty unable to be contained in mortal form. Commonalities of color are yellow in the east, orange in the south, and red in the west.

"In the game of words and diplomacy, compassion weaves bridges between nations and unites hearts divided by borders."
