Maki

Written by Commando Chipmunk

Eolimakialial (a.k.a. Maki, Princess, Little Mistress of Fire, Fire Child)

Then, there's me. The kid. Also, the princess, by default. Because everyone says all my kind are dead (not that I believe that myself). But they still call me princess. Which is probably some sick sort of humor attempt, because if I really am stuck as the last full-blooded Elfe princess girl in the world...Well. That's sad. For everyone. Not just me.   I have a really hard job.   I'm the Super.

Personal history

Maki was born before the Pale War from a Flame of the Forest tree during the rise of the Kingdom of Pura. None know which two Elfes' love created her tree, and thus she was considered a bastard orphan. She spent much of her childhood running around with other young Elfes and doing whatever she pleased with next to no oversight.   When Pura was sucked in Pale's dimension, Maki was sucked with it. She survived the transition, but was soon captured by Pale's minions. She spent much of her time in Pale's dimension as a slave being forced to tend fires. Still being young and resilient, she learned how to keep her head down and somewhat enjoy existence.   Maki was rescued from Pale's men by Celynia, a Viridian Vahl-Alkym and one of the Royal Class Force of the Kingdom of Pura. Celynia took Maki back to the hidden Pura Resistance stronghold where Maki had a few months to heal and begin to learn more about Pura and Elyon.   Tragedy struck when the stronghold was discovered and captured by the enemy. King Espero, the leader of Pura Resistance, was killed. Queen Vyta was kept as prisoner and pressured to recant. Maki was kept with the other miscellanous prisoners until she was dragged aside to care for the Queen during her spare moments of recovery between interrogations.   A few days after the tragedy, the remnants Royal Class Force managed to stage an escape and free Vyta. Maki was present at the time and came along by default. The Class Force fled to a hidden portal that they believed would lead them back to Ashnuw. This portal has been blocked off by Espero's order and the Class Force had to break through the barrier before their assailants caught up with them. Despite their efforts, they could not break in time and there was only enough space for Maki to crawl through. So she did.   Queen Vyta solembly charged Maki with the mission of returning to Ashnuw and warning the kingdoms of Ashnuw of Pale's immenent return and desire to bring all of Ashnuw into his demension. Vyta told Maki that in order to have the strength to do this, she would have to know Elyon for herself and not merely know Him from what others around her had told her. Celynia gave Maki a ring to take back with her and told her to ask Xkoll, her fiance, to find them.   Maki accepted this quest, and stepped through the portal. She survived the travel and arrived on Alte Rynn in Ashnuw, unconconscious.
1689 - Xkoll found Maki unconscious on Alte Rynn wearing his lost love's ring. He nursed her back to health, but she knew nothing except her own name. Xkoll kept Celynia's ring in the hopes that his fiance was still alive.   For the next eleven years, Maki lived with Xkoll and his rat rogue Simab. They also found and semi adopted a Pura Sanctum refugee, a near-insane half-elf girl, and a lost young bard over the years and became the Royal Class Force of Lost Pura. Xkoll led them on missions to rescue prisoners, destroy pirate strongholds, and try to discover what happened to Pura.   1693 - Maki and Simab try to rescue an important hostage from Captain Viola. Unfortunately, Mort D'Ange arrives on the scene first. Simab is nearly killed and the prisoner is destroyed.   1700 - Maki takes a trip out of Pura for the first time to Kokka, with Xkoll, which nearly ended with Xkoll dying due to Maki's inability to control her powers. Maki saves his life, but this incident alerted Xkoll to Maki's need for further training.   A Weyr is called and Xkoll must leave. Maki overhears him talking with Simab where he reveals that he has begun to age. He only have another 100 or so years to live. With Maki being immortal, she will outlive him and she must carry on the legacy of Pura. While the rest of the class force goes on a vacation to Maire Gliase, Maki is sent to Adventurer's Outpost in Middlemarch into the care of Donindor, a Guardian and friend of Xkoll. Xkoll gives Maki his teleport and Celynia's ring as well for the journey, a sign of his loss of hope. She and her Class Force--the only family she has known--celebrate together with Here's a Health to the Company before they part.

Maki joins a band of questers in Middlemarch, causing more accidents and making frenemies with Sir Guiscard. She manages to make some of her first friends outside the class force--Apsu, Kashi, Acid, Nichole--since being without the Class Force forces her to be responsible about relationships on her own. She even attempts to form her own class force to better go on the quests, with a somewhat reconciled Guiscard as the leader.   She soon realizes that Donindor and his quests are not all that they seem and that any hope she had of a peaceful month in Middlemarch is laughable. Not only are they going up against a villain who is affecting the magnetism such that it could hurt all of Ashnuw (potentially even the sky island where Xkoll is), but they are rumors of the ancient Pale himself returning.   While on her journey, Donindor reveals to Maki that he knows that the kingdom of Pura was sucked in Pale's dimension. Maki takes this information and writes Xkoll.   A low point hit during a quest in the caves of Kelindor and after experiencing a terrible battle that ended in the teleportation of Squire and the immobilization of Tovian, Kashi, Jade and Vanus through adrenal failure poison. Maki snuck behind enemy lines and was caught with her abilities used up. She was slashed with an ax and left to bleed out. Later the ceiling came down in the caverns and she was teleport healed back to Middlemarch.   Upon arriving in Middlemarch, and having had her first taste of death, she determined to do a better job. She made her way back to Kelindor to meet up with the others and found them on the road. Her time with them was short lived, however. They fought a successful battle against Pale beings to save the gnome princess, in which she used her abilities much more efficiently under Guiscard's leadership. Some of the Pale beings managed to escape however, through a portal back to Pale's dimension. Upon the opening of the portal, Maki's full memory returned. She screamed, releasing a level of energy she had never accessed before, and created an inferno bomb overhead. She felt unconscious, much of her skin ruptured from the energy outburst, and would have been burned even worse if Dr. Beakerson had not risked his life to put a shield over her. Maki awoke, but was in shock. Guiscard carried Maki back to Adventurer's Outpost and placed her in a hospital until she recovered.   What transpired while Maki lay there was devastating. Maki lay in shock, listening to first silence, and then battle, and then an explosion that rocked the world. Finally, she came to, realizing her full purpose in being in Ashnuw and the truth of Pale's imminent return. She awoke to see from a window her comrades being forcefully sent out of Middlemarch by knights in blue. Before she could investigate, the hospital doors were blown down and the blue knights came in themselves. Maki recognized their leader, Baldwin--a man she had thought an earnest quester--and he recognized her. After beating her, he and his men dragged her to a firing squad where they shot her to death.   Thankfully, Maki had bought a second teleport heal. She teleported back into the middle of the camp and turned invisible. Enraged after seeing those innocents who had been killed with her--all non-human and mixed races--she used chill of death on Baldwin and stole a letter before running into the woods.   Maki was not the only one ready to continue the fight. She was rescued in the woods by some of her comrades, as well as Ananias. For a moment, confusion ensued as she recognized him as the assassin who had once hurt Simab so long ago back in Pura. However Beakerson vouched for him, claiming that he had been brainwashed and had now reformed. Maki and the group went to hide in a cave where she managed to gather the story of what had happened while she was unconscious. A rebel group of the Order of the Martyrs, the Sanctified, had come to take Donindor and the hidden relics they had been searching for. Sir Guiscard--who happened to be Baldwin's older brother--was taken prisoner as well as Kashi. The Sanctified had a terrible superweapon they had fired on one of the kingdoms of Ashnuw and had completely destroyed it's capital city. Athruu had arrived last minute to free the others, and had helped them rescue Donindor, but now Donindor had disappeared as well. And worst of all--the group had fought a terrible battle with Pale. Apsu had been shot and had disappeared. Eragon had lost an arm. Acid Sugar also had disappeared, probably to return to her kingdom and warn her people. Jade had been killed trying to fight her way back to the outpost.   Even though Maki had not taken the time to get terribly close to any of them, she was disheartened and overwhelmed, also coping with her new found energy levels and her returned memories. Trying to merge her old self and new self proved difficult. She knew she had to stay to rescue Guiscard however, as he was her leader, and then she had to fulfill her purpose of warning the kingdoms about Pale's return.   While in hiding and making a plan to rescue Guiscard and Kashi, Ananias took Maki under his wing to train her. As a fellow Super with much experience, he became another father figure in her life.   Then further disaster struck. News reached Maki that one of the kingdoms the Sanctified had fired up was Canubala Cwtch, where Xkoll had been, and there were next to no surivivors. Maki was devastated and enraged, nearly going inferno again, but Ananias calmed her down. For the first time, Maki began to unlock her feelings of love and grief and hate and take her first steps towards understanding pain and empathy. She made an effort to reach out to Juniper, a young ranger who had been adopted by Viridian parents, and a very young all white Viridian child named Orla.   They finally managed to rescue Guiscard and Sukoshi--for Kashi, who had been going to be burned alive by the Sanctified, had already been rescued by her brother Sukoshi by him killed her after putting his teleport heal on her. Maki managed to swipe a ton of letters and journals and personal belongings of Guiscard's off of Baldwin's desk, which she gave back to Guiscard.   The remnant of the group officially began to part ways. Maki took a brief detour in Kelindor to retrieve her bag, which she'd lost in the caverns, and to upgrade her supplies. From that time on she began to wear Xkoll's ring he'd given her in his memory. She also took the time to warn Kelindor personally of Pale's threat.   Maki and several of the others travelled with Guiscard to the edge of the Wilderness where Kashi and Acid rejoined them for Jade's funeral. There they said their official goodbyes and parted ways. Maki continued to write some letters with Acid and Aranauh, and Ananias and Dr. Beakerson travelled with her, but in Maki's eyes, she had managed to lose her first group of friends.   This was not quite the case, however. Soon after Jade's funeral, Maki received a letter from Tovian urging her to come to Torria. She did, and rejoined there with several old friends, including Donindor, who confided in her about seeing Pale's dimension and his fears of Pale's rising. Together the companions marched against Bronus, but were remarkably sent back in time. After completing his puzzles and working through a series of obstacles, they managed to return to the correct time and destroy Bronus, effectively saving Torria.   From there, Ananias, Beakerson and Maki heard word of an important kingdom meeting regarding what to do about the Sanctified. Maki decided she must go and testify about Pale's return at this meeting, and they all took a submarine to Glandoria.   Upon arriving in Glandoria, a series of adventures brought Maki back in touch with Sarafina. While trying to help Sarafina find clues as to how her friend Malik had disappeared, Maki spied Ananias fighting someone that looked like Xkoll through the woods. She ran with all her might, straight into her dragon-father's arms and the two were reunited. Simab was also there, and the rat helped entertain Ananias, Beakerson and Sarafina while Maki and Xkoll relayed news.   Xkoll told Maki that he had gotten her letter and was flying away from the Weyr when it was destroyed. He had been terribly injured, captured and tortured by pirates, had had his wings cut off, and had been sold as a slave in Aizdihar. Thankfully, Simab had been there visiting his family and had recognized Xkoll during the slave auction. He had rescued his master and the two had fled. They were now heading to Broostwater Heuntsia for the same meeting Maki had been going to, in hopes of finding word of her and representing Pura among the kingdoms. Maki in turn returned Xkoll's ring, told him that her memories were back, Celynia was still alive and loved him, and his king was dead. Both were in shock. Maki used a Heal all Wounds on Xkoll's fire chambers (they had been slashed open while he was a prisoner), but they had already grown back wrong and infected. She managed to heal him of the infection, but he could not breathe fire.   From there, Maki began to relax a little and return to some of her old ways with Xkoll in charge. He, Ananias, Beakerson, Sarafina and Simab all worked together to rescued Sarafina's friend and accidently kidnap/adopt a long Tengu named Abiru. After a battle with a dangerous pirate guardian who set up a trap for those of the group who had been with Donindor, the now very large party fled to Broostwater for the meeting. There they met up with Kil'Kenny and Orla and Juniper. Maki continued training with Ananias and processing everything that had happened in her past and who she needed to be now. Though she did not show many outward signs of change in her troublesome behavior, inwardly she was asking herself who she was--the selfish and apathetic elf child of her early childhood and 11 years with her Class Force? Or the young guardian, the "Little Mistress of Fire" Xkoll and Ananias and she wanted to become.   Finally the meetings arrived. Outside of the palace, Maki was surprised to find the rest of her class force--Raevyn, Lloyd and Elayne. After a brief reunion, Maki went in with them to the meetings where she was able to openly warn the kingdoms of Pale's return. During this time, Ananias also recovered his memories and was reunited with his father--the King of Elenthia.   However, the meeting went badly. Thinking that the Sanctified were planning to Rectify the city, everyone evacuated. Instead, the Sanctified occupied it. Maki and the Class Force escaped into the woods on a wagon. After taking a moment to rest, Ananias gifted Maki with an Elenthian blade, one that had been his mothers. Overjoyed, Maki accepted it much to Xkoll's displeasure.   Xkoll took Maki aside and the two spoke frankly. Xkoll, having always wanted to protect Maki as the last Elfe child of Pura, did not approve of her risking her life in frontline combat, encouraging her to use her super abilities only. Maki reminded him of her immortality and calling as a Guardian--a calling that she had already begun to fulfill with Donindor. She had already suffered harm during the quests due to not having a weapon for close quarter combat. And turning away from what she had begun in Middlemarch was not an option. She broke down and expressed to Xkoll her guilt over not knowing Nichole and Jade before their deaths--and of her general apathy towards her comrades due to her immortality. She would rather risk death and injury in a life spent caring about people, than keep on living safely and just watching people die. She had begun to grow up, as he had hoped, and now he needed to let her continue growing up. Xkoll, very pained, reluctantly agreed. The two realized that they were destined down different roads--Xkoll to find lost Pura, Maki to fight against Pale in Ashnuw. Xkoll told Maki to learn from Ananias and fulfill her quest.   The group eventually arrived at a refugee camp set up by Kil'Kenny's privateer crew. There Maki continued her training with Ananias and received encouragement from the halfling, Milo--who told her that he looked up to her and believed she was a good and kind person who always tried to do what was right. This gave Maki the encouragement and hope that she needed to believe she could learn to genuinely care about people and carry on Xkoll's mission after his death.   When Maki heard word of Donindor and the Order of Nehara rallying kingdoms to retake Middlemarch and destroy the Rectifying, Maki went to Baleror at once. She and her Class Force once again sang Here's a Health to the Company as one, now also singing it in memory of those that had been lost from Donindor's band. She and her "family" then parted ways--this time with no future plans to join again. Even though she had lost then, she was determined to carry on their spirits into her long years. To follow in both of her "fathers'" footsteps, protect and love her friends, and--and maybe take life a little more seriously. Even if it meant buckling down and trying to find out exactly Who Elyon was for herself.

Education

No formal education. She could read when she arrived in Ashnuw. Xkoll, Elayne, Lloyd, Raevyn and Simab furthered her learning with stories, books, lore and combat training.

  • Making some kinda sorta friends in Adventurer's Outpost.
  • Hitting the leader of the Blood Hammer Clan with the Chill of Death.
  • Hitting Baldwin with Chill of Death.

  • Using her inferno on Lord Tor.
  • Getting to tell the kingdoms of Ashnuw that Pale was coming.

Failures & Embarrassments

  • Knowing literally nothing to help Xkoll get Pura back.
  • Almost getting Xkoll killed in Kokka.
  • Burning Guiscard's face because she thought he was a criminal.
  • Going behind enemy lines and getting teleport healed so that she missed Athruu's appearance.
  • Missing seeing Pale's appearance in Ashnuw.
  • Not realizing that Kashi and Sukoshi were identical twins.
  • Not caring about people who later died.
  • General breaches in her developing emotions and lack of self control.

Mental Trauma

Subconsciously, Maki's lack of oversight and love as a young child, as well as her time as a slave in Pale's dimension, still affects her today. She hardly ever actively thinks about these times in her life because they were times when she was pretty much bored and alone and doing what she wanted and surviving.   But that's exactly it. Those times of her life created a duality in her-- a practical denial of love and relationship as well as a deep hunger for love and relationships. Her father relationships, especially Xkoll's, and her friend relationships mean everything to her, despite how hard she tries to rationalize not actually needing them. She blames her apathy on her awareness of her own immortality and the pain of knowing she's eventually going to see everyone she cares about die. And this is in part true. But the true root lies in her abondonment and abuse as a child.   Otherwise, Maki is surprisingly resilient. The pain and horrors she experienced on the occasions when she was teleport healed were very unpleasant, but they did not leave lasting scars. In fact, they pushed her further into action and determination to become strong enough to face her foes.   Her only other trauma is due to the natural process of aging. As Maki grows up, she is slowly beginning to unlock feelings she has never had before--most of them negative feelings like sadness and anger. These new feelings are rather frustrating to her, as she was very chill and unconcerned with emotional distractions before going to Middlemarch. However, along with this pain comes a greater understanding of reality and an awareness of others. They are also slowly helping her push forward and become the guardian she was born to be.

Intellectual Characteristics

Maki appears a little spacey at first. This is mostly due to her young age (in Elfe aging, she is only 11 when she went to Middlemarch), and her somewhat volatile Super abilities, which require her to use up vast quanities of energy and render her very sleepy 24/7.   Behind her default sleepy/impulsive mode, Maki is a fairly good strategizer. She is good at staying on task and knowing what matters.   Maki is a prolific writer and artist. Most of her work is very sarcastic and playful in nature, but it still displays the seed of her hidden intelligence.

Morality & Philosophy

Maki has a very strong understanding of nobility and right and wrong, instilled by Xkoll. Yes, she breaks the rules she thinks are stupid and causes problems a plenty. But when push comes to shove, she doesn't like evil and injustice (it needs to be smushed) and she knows she needs to be loyal and true to her role in bringing that evil down. She is rebellious by nature, but once she chooses someone to be her leader, she 100% obeys their orders because she knows cooperation gets the job done and is the right thing to do. She struggles with being respectful and responsible, but has learned enough to sometimes pull it off.   Maki's only real connections with Elyon have been through Xkoll's teachings on the Order of Pura and a brief charge Queen Vyta gave her, encouraging her to find Elyon for herself and know His love. Unfortunately, Xkoll has struggled with his own relationship with Elyon and while he has taught Maki Elyon's ways of right and wrong, he never showed her how to know Him herself. As for Queen Vyta's charge, Maki has been very distracted and she's never given it focused attention since regaining her memory.

Social

Contacts & Relations

Xkoll - Maki's Viridian class force leader, default father, and servant. Have a special bond since he raised her and they can both create fire.   Simab - Maki's best friend, a rat rogue who tells her stories and taught her plenty of bad habits.   Elayne - Maki's closest thing to a mom or sister. Keeps Maki somewhat clean and healthy.   Raevyn - Maki's ally, she likes to laugh at his moodiness   Lloyd - Maki's ally, she likes to laugh at his clumsiness and bad musicality   Kil'Kenny - The Class Force's rival, and thus Maki's rival. She likes to stick her tongue out at him.   Donindor - Great Guardian of the Order of Nehara. Secretly intimidates Maki and she looks up to him as a fellow immortal.   Athruu - Bear Shape-shifter enemy that Maki despises and wants to blow up.   Baldwin - Traitor and overall terrible person who is partially responsible for destroyin the Viridians, and who Maki really really really wants to blow up. But can't since he's Guiscard's brother.   Ananias - Reformed Assassin super turned Monk, Maki's trainer and another father figure.   Sir Guiscard - A Knight of the Order of the Martyrs, super bossy, Maki's first enemy turned leader-friend.   Apsu - An Aldegourian dragon who befriended Maki from the start. Made Maki feel more relaxed and at home since she was a dragon.   Doctor Beakerson - First person that made Maki laugh and instantly earned her "Friendish" title.   Kashi - One of the first kinda-sorta friends Maki met, secretive and an object of Maki's concern. Also a little wary though since she was Kokkan.   Acid - A fellow elf and another first kinda-sort friend. Maki really likes her gun. They kept up correspondence after parting ways after Jade's death.   Sarafina - A rogue half elf who went on lots of adventures with Maki in Glandoria and Broostwater. Definitely one of Maki's top allies, even though she's not a big fan of Sarafina's friend, Chance.   Tovian - Torria rogue very respected by Maki--even after she saw him crying with adrenal failure. She was really honored when he paid for her passage to Glandoria after helping save Torria.   Araunah - A Wood elf who has kept up correspondence with Maki. Maki   Eragon - Maki does not know him very well, but got to meet him more in Torria and admire his new arm.   Nichole - A healer who helped Maki after she fainted when she first burned Guiscard. Was not very moved by her death and feels very guilty for this fact.   Vanus - A pirate who Maki intended to knockout or capture and did not trust at all.   Minnerva - Vanus' slave who Maki inteded to rescue. She was teleport healed before she could do this however.   Sir Dronin - Maki didn't talk to him much, but always thought that he looked like a very interesting snarky person. Liked that he was a fellow super.   Jade - The Mantis from the Wilderness. Maki only had one conversation with her, but always thought she was pretty cool. Was hit hard when she heard "the bug" had died.   Squire - Maki never paid her much attention because it's hard to talk to mute people, but she always wanted to become friends with squire and play pranks on Guiscard with her.   Aisha - Maki had one interaction with Aisha after she was teleport healed. They tried to communicate, but rather unsuccessfully and Maki gave up and moved on. She now regrets not trying harder since Aisha has disappeared.   Nascha - Another member of the group that Maki wished she had taken the time to know. Nascha helped fight with Maki and the others in the woods when Maki escaped from the Sanctified's firing squad and then was teleport healed. Maki does not know where she went after that.   Hellen - A forgetful mother who honestly makes Maki very nervous everytime she sees her, for fear she might be caring filia.   Sukoshi - Kashi's twin, which Maki did not realize until Kashi was already captured. Doesn't quite trust Sukoshi since he seems to leave people and didn't bring Kashi back to the group.   Dr. Weednut - Maki really really wants his gun.   Milo - A halfling with a heart of gold who encouraged Maki. Up until that point, she really didn't think about him that much, but his words inspired her to keep trying to live up to her calling as a Guardian.   Haku - A really epic white Tengu Maki met at the Broostwater meetings during a ball. He managed to coax her out from under a table to dance. She definitely considers him one of her friends.   Abiru - A new friend, a Tengu. Maki doesn't interact with her a ton since she's a little quieter and since there has been so much going on. Just accepts her as another temporary sister in the class force since Xkoll seems to have low key adopted her.   Pierre - A boy from Vachelous who Maki met in a tree while he was hiding after stealing. Pierre's twisted thoughts on friendship, stealing and right and wrong drive Maki crazy and the two seem to constantly end up in some sort of struggle. But, much to Pierre's chagrin, Maki insists that she is his friend and Maki is committed to seeing he doesn't end up dead.   Rivon - A shifty sailor type with Kil'Kenny's group -- who did not get on good terms with her when he implied he didn't care about Ananias finding his sister. Maki does not trust him and tries to ignore him.   Orion - Another shifty sailor type with Kil'Kenny's group and a rival, but not a scumbag like Rivon. Maki is determined to be businesslike and cordial around him.   Orla - A young Viridian Maki met when Maki was greiving Xkoll's death. Maki first tried practicing her sympathy on her. Her efforts were mostly unsucessful, but Orla knew she meant well and has positive thoughts towards her. Orla's stance confuses Maki because Orla is both obviously under Xkoll's care, but also sworn to Kil'Kenny, uniting the rival groups.   Juniper - Another person Maki tried to practice her sympathy on. Maki doesn't know Juniper well, and kinda of considers her part of the privateer (and thus rival) crowd, but still has a special loyalty towards her as another person with Viridian connections.   Rinku - A Tengu who Maki met breifly at the camp. Seemed very excited about hearing more about Pura.   Lord Tor - A Guardian pirate from Xkoll's past who targetted Maki, Sarafina and Beakerson. Maki was very happy when she managed to blow him up once and hopes she can do it again.   Celynia - Xkoll's lost fiance and the one who rescued Maki. Maki has good memories of her and her nobility under trial in Pale's dimension.   Queen Vyta - Maki's queen, and with the king now dead, Maki's ultimate leader. Remembers her charge to return to Ashnuw and warn the kingdoms with soberness.   Pale - The one who Maki hates most of all. Who took away Pura and is now trying to bring all of Ashnuw into his dimension. One of Maki's biggest wishes is to personally see him and try to burn his face off.
