The Stigma of Twins

Within the world of Ashiel it is not uncommon for twins to be born, even among the Gods themselves. Among the Elder Gods there is Seram and Xistan, both woven by The Weaver at the same time. They are the first twins born into the world, Seram is light and life and Xistan is darkness and death. Within the Younger Gods there are two more sets of twins, the first of which is L'iaris and Z'olrun. L'iaris is the Goddess of Love and Z'olrun is the God of Hatred. The second set of twins is M'urcen and M'urdar, M'urcen is the Goddess of Good and M'urdar is the Goddess of Evil. This dichotomy between the twins of the Gods has permeated down into all mortal societies, to one degree or another. When twins are born on Ashiel it is a natural reaction for people to wonder which one of them is going to be the dark twin and which one the light twin.   Whether or not this is a self-fulfilling prophecy or not doesn't matter. Certainly there have been twins born after who have upheld this myth and others who have broken and proved it false. The belief still persists in the backs of the minds of many people. With the Free Lands of Muria it is still around but considered a little old fashioned of a superstition. In the Kingdom of Merjoux is it widely believed and a family having twins is quickly the talk of the town. The Yarldem of Azura, on the whole, do not believe in such superstition but there are some who harbor the deep belief even so. With the Stratocracy of Isenfeur twins are watched very carefully. The Empire of Sera believes that twins while one being dark and one being light, are inextricably bound together and thus it is seen as a boon and not a bane. Twins within the Plutocracy of Cendaq often fetch a high price in the flesh markets. The Kingdoms of Bata are of varying and differing beliefs on the subject. The Theocracy of Ordina widely claims that the protection of Yshirea protects the people who live there from the chaos of having twins. The Matriarchy of Deephaven, the dark elven cities, don't exactly believe in the superstition but they are curious about it. The High Elves of Everbloom simply don't pay any attention to such silly notions.
