The Free Cities

The Free Cities are a collection of human dominated city states south of the Vitate River. The Free Cities often fight amongst each other for territory and trading privileges, especially in the Disputed Lands between their cities. The Free Cities are often governed by Grand Senatrix, local dynasts elected among the grandees of the city. The Free Cities often focus on trade, their ships forming the bulk of commerce that goes through both the Darkwater and the Western Sea. The Free Cities adhere strictly to Gaea Divided, more out of a point of pride for resisting Divinate conquest than for religious fervor. The Free Cities’ extent is at its lowest in history, with the northern cities along the eastern shore of the Bay of Domitia having long since fallen to Divinate authority and the eastern cities past the Thunder Mountains flying Elven colors. Regardless, the residents of the Free Cities pride themselves on their individualist and ambitious spirit, and will only think of allying themselves with other human powers when at the most desperate moment.
