Vampire
To many who plumb the depths of Animatic Magic, their goals at first lie not in dreams of oceans of undead servants, but instead in extending their own mortal, fragile lifespans beyond that of their kin. These individuals often are lured by the dark promise of Vampirism.
The Vampire is an undead that retains all of its sense of self, memory, even spellcasting ability if they were a mage in life unlike lesser forms of undeath, though there is a heavy cost. The Animatic equation that powers them is simply not powerful enough on its own to fuel the undeath of a being in such a state, so to sustain themselves they must resort to parasitic means. The blood of any intelligent and sapient being holds a faint trace of the soul, far too small and weak to be of much use or even known by other forms of magic. To a Vampire, however, that small trace can force their bodies to continue to sustain an undead and even powerful existence.
As such, Vampires must use mortal beings as little more than sources of food if they seek to gain their prized immortality. They may even impart a stunted version of vampirism on others by overwriting their soul with a facsimile of their own inner Animatic equation. This has led to Vampires being incredibly feared and loathed by many folk, the faintest sign of one being cause for panic and hunts.
Vampires are not purely beings of power though, as they possess a few key weaknesses. The Animatic equations that created the first Vampires were heavily flawed, one major issue being the sun. Scholars have yet to discover the exact properties of sunlight which harm them, but a Vampire exposed to a normal dose could burn their skin and cause rapid degeneration, leading to death if overexposed. Many Vampires then create magical wards to protect against the sun if they go out during the day, though these are obvious to the observant. Only the most skilled of Vampires can completely pass for the living during the day, and these are easily the most feared and powerful of their kin.
