Razorshell Turtle

Basic Information

Anatomy

They are anatomically similar to the Common Snapping Turtle, in exception to it's size, high internal body heat, bladed shell and high-pressure steam chambers.

Biological Traits

Razorshell Turtles have several unique traits that make them distinctive from other freshwater turtles. Firstly, on average they are 3 feet in height. Secondly, the way in which they hunt and defend themselves is unique. A Razorshell's internal body temperature is very high, it is possible to spot them by the slight bubbling that can be seen above them in the water. This high body temperature forms steam that is contained within angled, high-pressure chambers within the shell that, when released, can spin the turtle rapidly towards its opponent. The turtles' shells have razor-sharp edges, thus the name, and combined with their rapid spinning, can cause vicious lacerations on prey, predators or adventurers who got a little too close.

Ecology and Habitats

Razorshells inhabit swamps and other types of wetland. They seek food in the water and climb onto rocks, patches of dry or muddy ground and logs to bask in the sun's warmth.

Dietary Needs and Habits

They eat fish, snails, algae, plants, insects and crustaceans. Their preferred meals are giant fish, such as giant catfish.
