Watamutum

The Watamutum, or Wata, for short, are an agile race of excellent climbers and magical crafters. They are not as numerous as the Ranabiri but tribes often have a respectable population of them.

Playing a Watamutum Character

The Watamutum's magic is governed by the Three Moons of the planet. As the moons near the planet in their orbit, Watamutum born under those auspices are proficient in one of the major expressions of magic. As such, similarly to The Ranabiri, their irises are differently colored in accordance to their birth moon and their hair tends to be hued and shaded accordingly.

The Watamutum often tend  to have smaller tribes inside larger tribes. They are capable hunters and scouts and often provide more resources than they consume due to being smaller than The Ranabiri.

Basic Information

Anatomy

The Matawutum are mostly quadrupedal, walking on the knuckles of their hands and soles when on the ground or climbing and bipedally on their hind limbs only when necessary for reaching. Their real strength is moving agilely through trees and vertical terrain using their prehensile tails for balance.
They have 2 basic body types: Arboreal and Terrestrial. Arboreal Watamutum have shorter hair while the Terrestrial Watamutum have manes and fuzzier tails.
Their bodies are covered in hair save for their hairless faces, soles, and palms and their prehensile tails. Their feet have a hallux placed further down than The Ranabiri for more proficient climbing and gripping. They have strong nails that tend to stay short and somewhat pointed allowing the to firmly grab and maintain their hold on surfaces and prey.

Genetics and Reproduction

The Watamutum are mammals with gestation periods between 270-277 days. They usually only have child at a time, with twins as an uncommon occurrence though they can have up to 3 safely. They maintain fertility throughout their entire life.

Growth Rate & Stages

Watamutum reach sexual maturity at 12-13 years old. Cerebral development maturates at around 20 years.

Dietary Needs and Habits

The Watamutum are omnivorous though they have very varied diets from vegetarian to mostly carnivorous, depending on where they live. This makes them very adaptable to new environments.

Additional Information

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

The Watamutum are trichomat with good vision. Their sense of smell is generally good enough to detect the direction of a scent. Their hearing can hear most middle ranges and some high and low ranges.

Civilization and Culture

History

The Watamutum have lost much of their history to an event known simply as The Great Abandonment . It is believed that they lived in large cities with The Akoko and The Ranabiri  and without the fear of the The God Primal and The Thirteen Almighty Primal Lords.
In their lore, they describe their motherland as a lush forest with trees that cared for them like mothers care for children and caves full of glittering stones like stares. Their myths center around cautionary tales and spiritual journeys where the main characters learn some truth about the world and harmony.
Those sujugated by certain Ranabiri dream of escape or saving by a stronger, more equitable tribe.
