It-Waits-It-Swallows

Such a magnificent beast! Bereft of the labors of the mind! Free of will! Immense in form and hunger! A true chieftain of waters stale and flowing. It is both a shame and and an honor to hold even weight on their menu... -Loremaster Rumi

Ecology and Habitats

This beast is not the fastest swimmer and prefers to ambush prey from the shallows. It can hold its breath for as long as half an hour before rising to the surface for a breath. They are never found more than a mile from water and though they will attempt to migrate during droughts.

Dietary Needs and Habits

These creatures are omnivorous ambush predators. Through some defect of evolution, breeding, or manipulation, their digestive track is incredibly inefficient leading them to be voracious eaters. To conserve energy, they mostly lie in wait in the water mouth agape, waiting for an opportunity to lunge and swallow prey whole. When greenery is abundant, they will graze on whatever plant matter they can, occasionally leaving the water to graze on whole bushes, low tree branches, or carrion.
If they perceive a meal on land, that does not enter the water, they may leave the water in an attempt to scamper to the potential prey trap it in their powerful jaws to be dragged to the water for consumption.

Additional Information

Solitary except during mating season where they can be found in pairs.
