Tragic Figure of the Righteous

Celeste II did not take the insults of the Stolisi anywhere near as well as her predecessor. She enforced harsher regulations and demanded higher quotas from the mines, but forgot to disarm the south. With much of her personal army abroad in the north west and the far west, the southern city of Kysra was claimed by Kaisa, who proclaimed it the capital of Stolisia, instigating the 9 year long War of the Night. Despite a numerical advantage, it appeared that Celeste's Maiden Guard had largely fallen into disrepair, having been used mostly for parades and rituals designed to scare and gain the trust of the populace. The heavily armed south, with its materials and geographical advantage, swept further and further north, until Celeste II cracked and was forced to surrender to Kaisa. More than half of mainland Divinice was lost to the new Republic of Stolisia. The subsequent outrage from the populace, and the fallout following the Bombing of Kysra, was followed closely by the ascension of Kohinoor I. It is unclear whether Celeste passed away, stepped down, or was forcibly removed from the position, as no records of Kohinoor's coronation mention the fate of her predecessor, and Celeste vanishes from history. Given her young age and good health, its suspected she was removed from the throne by the Temple Maidens and the military.
